The Headphone Driver Pics Thread

The rather strange Sony PFR-V1 with the bass duct removed. I still can't for the life of me figure out what is the driver material. Seems like kevlar. Still one of the most unique headphones? I ever heard.

Looks more like impregnated fabric.
Very similar drivers on my Sony VIP-1000 :)

I remember seeing the VIP-1000 here and there, never thought much about it though. Always thought it was another cheapo wireless. Reading more about it now I want to get my hands on one. I do have a DS8000 on the way but it seems the gyrotrak on that one isn't as advanced as the VIP-1000

Interesting... There aren't any headphones with 90 mm drivers on the market with the exception of the LCD-1. They only started listing planar magnetic drivers in the beginning of this year. The company themselves seem to mostly exist on alibaba and the only FCCID product they have is a cheapo in ears from three years ago. Try asking the orthodynamic roundup thread for help. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/orthodynamic-roundup.111193/ Those guys will know about anything planar magnetic.

Edit: I won't be surprised if we see some more planar magnetic headphones soon. When they came out with the drivers there was a massive spike in their transactions.

Thanks! Tho I did check the specs of the driver and they're not actually 90mm buh the same 106mm that the m1060 has, plus the drivers and the M1060 (the open back and not the closed version) have the same 50 ohms. Would be a cool project driver, wonder if they'd fit in the beyerdynamic dtxxx cups :)

That make sense, they have similar looking headphone bodies for sale as well. I doubt they will fit. If my dimensions are correct the driver is actually slightly larger than the DTxxx cups which measure around 4 inches.

That Alibaba link does not work for me. However I wanted to comment that Audeze lcd-1 having 90mm drivers. It's all marketing bs. When Audeze says the driver is 90mm they count the whole diaphgram hidden inside not just the active area.

In reality it's more like 40mm x 50mm. Here it is with Audeze Sine.

That's quite misleading by audeze

But yeah, they measure the entire diaphram. At least for electrostatics the entire diaphram is used, except maybe the baby stax. Makes me wonder if there is any differences in sound if they cut out the unused part of the diaphram

I would not mind measuring entire diaphgram but it get's confusing between manufacturers. Verum driver is 82mm according the manufacturer but it's huge. Surface area is propably bigger than on 106mm Audezes.

True true. Got that idea from a fellow headfier who shoved a he4xx driver inside the dt880 so ever since I've seen that it's been in my mind.
Maybe something from audio-technica's A or AD range just to have a frame to put the drivers on?
Well true the ad's are an option buh I am looking at mostly closed and those ads seem to have some thin metal as a back and that's terrifying when it comes to reflections. Tho I do remember seeing some Woodies. Thanks tho.
