Very interesting things you did there. Please explain what everything does there, thanks.

Refraction (dots) stabilization (heavy carpet) and the 4 pieces of rubber around magnet allows or acts like a lifter for the fractal fiberglass I add

What does the mesh netting over the solder joints do?

the fiberglass mesh stabilizes the wire so it doesn't vibrateHow does it affect the sound?

Sony MDR-V700 (made in Thailand)
Sony MDR-V700 (made in Japan)
Sony MDR-CD1700 - (made in Japan) (front paper damping version... so much glue... wuh-duh-fuh Sony)
- this makes me wonder if some other CD1770 variants were made in Thailand - can people check their CD1700s?? ^^
Seems like these are all also completely interchangeable with MDR-CD770 drivers via the same 3-point twist-lock system.
Only the CD1700 was glued to the baffle on top of the twist-lock..... Excessive much, Sony -_-
EDIT - Sony MDR-CD780 - also apparently identical(??) to MDR-V700 driver
I posted this photo years ago and totally forgot about it.

I recently received the k99 540ohm 40mm blue empress driver.
Its installed in an open back chassis. It sounds pretty good but I find it lacking body, warmth and bass. Any recommendations on if its possible to extract more bass out of it?

Sony MDR-CD1700 biocellulose driver T__T
- this driver was already destroyed by the assembly process in the factory.
- the driver was glued to the baffle; liquid glue seeped onto the diaphragm surface and contracted while curing, which pulled and warped the driver.
- the extra 'destruction' (some tearing) is due to disassembly for the purpose of investigation and documentation - there was never any hope of fixing this faulty driver.

I got struck by temporary insanity and opened my Abyss ab1266 Phi.
Sorry for the dark pictures. It was spur of a moment kind of thing. I did not want to leave headphones unattended (Cats) and go look for a extra light.
Thats a lot of wrinkles for a $6000 headphone...
Some holes around the driver
It seems like the driver is glued. Atleast I could not see how I could open it fully. It propably for the best like that..

Is that a cork gasket around the cup edge??
It looks like they used some thick wiring. Maybe 20awg silver stranded wire?I got struck by temporary insanity and opened my Abyss ab1266 Phi.

Holy schiit @Roderick . Looks so cheap even in comparison to Hifiman’s bottom tier drivers.
Hifiman’s bottom tier is only crap because Hifiman purposely makes them crap with the crappiest magnets even though the parts cost difference is nearly nil. Its all part of their marketing scheme to justify HE6se and Susvara prices.

That explains the $6000 price tag!
