Somebody convice me not to buy the x3 (oe dx50)

Please tell me it does not sound as good as a rockboxed ipod 5.5g playing flac

I have yet to hear the X3 (hopefully soon), and have never owned an IPOD. That being said, while I did like the sound of my 24-bit flac vinyl rips on my Rockboxed Fuze, there's no comparison to how those same rips sound on my DX-100. Rockbox downsamples 24-bit to 16-bit, so it does lose some clarity, warmth, and texture in the process. So assuming you're listening to 24-bit audio, it's definitely worth getting a player that can handle 24-bit natively.

I do love the Rockbox OS though; I wish that IBasso and Fiio had a UI as simple to use as Rockbox as well as its rich featureset. I especially like the Cross-Fade feature--like having a portable DJ.

FYI, I called B&H and they expect their distributor to get it around August 5th, and they'll be ready to ship around the 12th.

So I hedged, and ordered one from MP4Nation. Hopefully MP4Nation will ship next week.

Thanks

If that schedule holds I will have mine before my next long trip, and I will have it for sure before the cruise.

Looking forward to comparing it to my Colorfly.

Does it have a bi-polar power supply (no large output coupling caps)?

Maybe you should enjoy your vacation rather than your audio gear

I pretty much listen to my portable gear only on the plane so the two are inextricably linked :)

yes, the amp section is powered by +/- 5V and without large output coupling caps, also there are a relay in the output to prevent any pop noise when power on/off or there are any over current or DC output.

after several years waiting for X3, everybody's now depressed because they have to wait 3 more days. human nature is a fun thing.
