I'm sure many users of the X3 are not blinded by marketing or jumping the bandwagon. As a matter of fact the X3 was a very little known device not too long ago and has become popular based on its reputation for sound quality. Personally I've owned many devices starting with the old cassette Walkmans (been at this a long time) through to my current favourite the X5. I've owned the X3, and when I did it was a jump up in sound quality from anything I've heard before, including any smartphone.
You need to understand that your experience with the X3 will not be the same as others. It could be simply that you prefer the sound from the S1 but that does not make the X3 inferior to everyone else. The specs of the devices don't mean much if you don't like the result. As was mentioned earlier it could be the headphone pairing with the X3 that you are not enjoying. Often a weak performing headphone will come to light when fed from a high quality source. Whereas a weak performing source will be masked by a weak performing headphone. It's all about synergy and coherence in the audio chain. Upgrade your headphones first, then the player, then find the best produced music you can and sit back and enjoy. Or, if you prefer, stick to what you have and enjoy.
I can appreciate that you bought the X3 expecting it to improve your audio chain from what you currently have and you are disappointed. I also can appreciate you wanting advice or to express your opinion on this site with others. I just don't understand why you need to post again and again saying the same thing and spamming the thread trying to convince everybody that your perspective and audio chain is the best when clearly this is not the case for everyone.
