Well MicroEuphoneum I do stand corrected and educated, I thought that Pin 21 had an Odd name.

I shall force myself to watch an hour of calibration video's from Dave Jones of EEV Blog... :D

I thought Zero was Even.

I'm in for a flogging again. Hope I don't have to explain that I don't mean 'flagging' this time.

Nice diagrams !!!!

Then as a result what is expected to obtain from the Coaxial out?

For the knuckle draggers out there (such as myself :D) when using SPDIF (coaxial) the X3 acts as a digital transport to output data (music) to an external DAC. From there use the amp of choice if not using a DAC/amp combo.

Battery life should be exceptional using it this way. I use coaxial from my X5 to the Oppo HA-1 and I get around 27 hours of use from the X5.

Thanks x Relic X
It works as I thought then, my Sony receiver is quite old sure the x3 DAC is better than the one inside the Sony Receiver, I will see if sending analog or digital signal to the receiver is the best,  thanks for the tip !!

What do you think about connecting X3 to an amp through the headphone out, not the line out?

I do not really hear any disadvantage in sound with 'double amplification', and using X3's EQ to add a little bass at certain genres seems quite beneficial to me...

About the only disadvantage to using the headphone socket for another amplifier instead of the line out is that you can't make the battery of the X3 last as long. I agree that it is nice to be able to use the EQ of the X3 in combination with the amplifier that you are using.
I just find the sound to be cleaner when I use the X3's amplifier alone or when using it with a seperate amplifier through the line out.

It is my understanding that the X3 converts the DSD's to PCM for playing which would probably chew into the battery with the conversion process.
Before you go filling up your µSD cards with 1/2 GB songs you might want to take that into consideration...

OMG! That must be true. Look at the block diagram of the WM8740. There is no direct input path to the DAC nodes. The only path is from the internal Sigma Delta Modulators.
AAAAAARRG! And I'm right in the middle of downloading free samples from Blue Coast. Pituky got me this time!

Hi guys.  I'd really like some advice here.

Right now, I use an iPod 7th Gen, and a Fiio E17 to play tunes to my headphones (list in signature below).  Would the X3 be enough to a) power the SZ1000 to the same level as the combo I already have, and b) would I be able to use just the X3, or would I still need the amp?

From what I'm seeing, sz1000 is 16 ohm, e17 can do 290mW, x3 can do 540mW, so there is certainly a power advantage in the X3. The X3 won't reach the 160 gig capacity of the 7th gen classic, and will easily outdo the capacity of a 7th gen nano. Now there will be a difference in sound, but nobody but you can say whether you'll find the x3 to sound better or worse. The nice thing about the x3 is it's a great all in 1 device.
