The Fiio X3 Thread.

I wouldn't say it's a pre-order. I've seen people do the same thing with announced, but unreleased products. When the ipad mini was introduced, ebay sellers would list the product on their page even though they didn't have any in stock. Then when they got some inventory, they'd ship to those who purchased via their listings.

It seems like this is more of a "hold my spot" deposit.
How is that any different than a pre-order???

It suggests that it's something direct from the manufacturer/dealer. It could just be a random individual who will go out to purchase the product and ship it to you.

I'd wait to order from Fiio... xD

The taobao link shows a price of RMB100, which is much cheaper than the official Fiio price of US$150-180. Guess this maybe just some pre-sale or even fake products...

Personally, I won't buy anything >$100 from taobao. Gotta wait for official release from Fiio and order from them.

RMB100 is just the deposit and the buyer must balance the payment.

The best will be order from a local dealer . the oversea freight is too expensive and a local dealer can always provide better warranty service.

James, are we still looking at an April release with a more probable June availability?

APE 192/24 insane mode stress test?
Just an idea. The 600Mhz dual core seems capable. If the X3 can decode that then it can decode anything. If not then perhaps the specs can be slightly revised.
Hopefully feiao is still participating. He seems to post less often in this thread compared to the other one.

Sorry, can't support to APE 192/24 insane mode. only support up to " high mode "

April in China mainland, we need to collect the feedback from our end user ASAP , also it will be more easy to us to ask our end user to send back the RMA so we can check out if there are any design defect when there are any quality report.

Thanks for the reply. That's plenty powerful!

Also, any chance of a short coaxial interconnect from Fiio (true, or close to, 75-ohm, and <10cm in length)? I have been looking for a commercial solution, to connect the X3 with my Leckerton UHA-6Sv2 (with RCA coaxial input), to little success.
I can probably hack http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?p_id=7180 with a Fiio L8 together, but that would not be ideal in terms of impedance matching.

If you can hack cables together why not try to use a (soft) coax cable, either from a spool or a cheap RCA 1m terminated product, then hack it up to your desired length and terminate with the proper plugs? (3.5mm mono phono plug on the X3 side)

Also it was mentioned in the locked thread that using L8 would be fine, even if it's not absolutely at 75ohm. Only one way to find out if it does anything to the signal vs a real 75ohm cable.

Good point. I would prefer good quality cables though. The smallest wire gauge that I have found is the Belden 1855A (23AWG). Any other suggestions?

Actually if you don't mind not using real 75ohm the L8 would do, just reterminate the other end with an RCA plug. That or just look for any 75ohm that's claimed to be anywhere near as soft as the usual RCA analog cable.

What is most important is not the DAC chip itself, but its implementation. Only time will tell--and if the E17 is, as stated above, any indication of what the X3 will sound like, we should have a J3 killer indeed.

Cowon no longer seems interested in the budget audiophile market. It's such a shame - I really like my J3, but the X3 sounds like an obvious successor with well thought-out features at a lower price. J3 will become a backup for me once this is released.
