Thanks for the responses, folks. I wasn't sure if my impression about it being buggy was accurate or not after following this thread for awhile, so it is good to know that it is working fine for most users. I'm a full album guy with a J3, so it would probably be right in my wheelhouse.

I miss my J3...wish they were still readily available.  I certainly wouldn't trade it for an X3...it was very underrated.

I ended up picking up a few portable amps just to test out with the X3 line out. I have the E12 and the JDS C5 on order so far. I can't think of any other slim portable amps other than the pico slim but I do hear they have issues with a pop when powered on and would not want that. Anything else I'm missing? I know there's a UHA4 but I already had that in the past.

General question, if you have the x3 just sitting not using it all how long is the battery lasting. If i charge mine till the green light comes on and let it sit all day the battery will almost be dead after less than18 hours. everthing is great no bugs, but the battery life sucks unless its just mine.

Yes, X3 has not standby mode so  it will still consume a lots of power even you are not playing music , but you can set the auto power off time in the system setting menu.

Is 1.23 still the most current firmware version? Does anyone know when the next firmware update is scheduled to become available?

Should be quite some improvement.

The opamp mod of AD8620 was first made by ClieOS, u can search the thread for it.
WM8741 should be slightly better than WM8740 as well.

someone mod our X3 with LMH6643, and we will not suggest people mod x3 with AD8620 caz the output power is too weak. also the LMH6643 will be used in our new DAC/AMP E18 . and maybe in X5 too ( we will use two LMH6643 to get enough current output )

If I am interpreting the spec sheets correctly (EE classes were a long time ago) with a +-5V supply, two of these will provide over 500mW at 50 ohm. If I am right that is extremely impressive power output. If my calcs are wrong, oh well...
