The Fiio X3 Thread.

I guess i'll wait, stick to my ipod and tell her to figure something out (not like my current setup sounds bad or doesnt work for me).

That ibasso product is nice but paying that kind of money for that kind of purpose without being able to drive something like electrostats or an HE6 seems to be a marvelously stupid idea unless a person also wipes with hundred dollar bills and window shops for ferarris

Lol...

Maybe look into the Colorfly or HiSound offerings. The X3 is about as good as it gets, especially the driving power.

I haven't been keeping up with the thread so this might be a stupid question... Any idea when the X3 will appear on Amazon?

Well, its my parents paying for her device, and my ipod was a b-day present while the amp was a christmas present. So the options she will be able to present them with will be:

1) wait for .75-1.25 months, pay $200, get this device for me while she gets my ipod that still has active applecare from august of last year.

2) be impatient and demand a 250 dollar ipod with no apple care right now. Her current one is broken due to negligence and her last one was lost due to negligence. All her technology breaks due to negligence. her last ipod was actually my last ipod, which I had kept in pristine condition since I bought it in 2006, and lasted till 2011 with only a battery swap needed.

3) be impatient and demand a 350 dollar ipod+apple care.

I think she'll just need to be patient and use my dad's sansa clip. Honestly if the clip+ wasnt such a complete POS and had any semblance of build quality whatsoever, i'd totally use that. But you cant really expect that considering its price. They took every last bit of the money it costs and dumped it into the audio quality department, and i guess i wouldnt really have it any other way. its just not up to my standards to be replacing my ipod, especially not with ath-m50's and an E11 plugged into it and no line-out support.

No,she'll wait, and all of my stuff is working fine in the mean time.

Outstanding!  I'm looking forward to this since I have such a similar setup.  Are you running straight out of the iPod or using an amp?

Using a pure silver LOD to either the Fiio E12 or JDS Labs C5-

Definitely awesome - looking forward to your impressions of the X3, and also of how it pairs with the H-200's

Well did some test runs tonight and i would definitely say the X3 improves (to my ears at least) on timbre, clarity, and imaging of instruments over the ipod 5g. I want to say that X3 is slightly mid-centric, as it evens out my XBA-40s (a u-shaped IEM) a bit more than the ipod. It did the same with the h200s as well, but not as drastic a difference as with the 40s (since the 40s are a very source picky iem).

Both tests were done out of line-out of the X3 and Ipod and ran through the Fiio E12 and JDS Labs C5.

Could it be that your sister's equipment breaks due to 'negligence' so frequently because she knows mummy & daddy will buy her a new one each time?

If I knew mummy & daddy would buy me a new one each time, I'd almost consider that motivation to be (cough!) 'negligent' with my gear...

Maybe if they drew the line and said she must replace her breakages herself, she might suddenly take much better care of her stuff.

Just a thought.

No offence intended

Nice impressions,  canikickit1, thanks.  Are you saying it's your sense that the x3 is improving the H200 (don't have the XBA myself) over the iPod+e12?  That would be good to hear and curious if running the x3 through the e12 makes any noticeable difference.

Yep. Class 10 64gb is fine.
http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/?capacity=64GB

Using that now. Had to re format it first but it works with out a single issue.

I have the same card and I'm getting a 64GB Class-10 Transcend in a couple of days (39,90 € - I my poor wallet had to bite the bullet!

). In the meantime, I'm (im)patiently waiting for my X3 to arrive!

Hopefully I'll have both in my hands in a couple of weeks!

Yes. Information regarding this is available on the specifications page on the floor website.

now this is a little off topic, but is there a high power output player like the X3 that can support a 64 gig microsd card and has a perfectly flat frequency response and otherwise similar specifications? maybe something from cowon?

I don't think Cowon's specs are "high powered - the S9 and J3 are around 15mW @ 32ohms if I remember right, and I don't think the larger players mean they make more power. Also they use an integrated DAC-headphone driver chip, unlike the X3 which is basically a discrete mutli-system - it has a real DAC and amp section, given that's what it was and then they reconfigured the components so they can fit a player in there (ie, screen, processor, TF card reader, etc).

rockbox cant differentiate between audiobooks and music afaik. ipod firmware can, but i REALLY dont want to be converting my entire collection of flac to ALAC

When Rockbox is installed, iTunes stays in the iPod - so basically your iPod becomes a dual-boot device (there's a procedure to boot up iTunes instead, and back to Rockbox when you want). So instead of giving up proper listening to audiobooks, or converting FLAC to ALAC, why not run Rockbox, drag and drop your FLAC into the iPod, disconnect it and boot up iTunes, then reconnect it and copy your audiobooks using iTunes on your computer?
