Depends on what kind of music you listen to and what headphones you use.

To me it was an obvious upgrade.

But in X3 thread people will say keep your X3.

If you ask the same question in X3 2nd gen thread, people will say upgrade immediately. :)

Yes, depends quite highly on what sound characteristics you're after.

i recently purchased the Bowers & Williams P7 (still in burn in process). Do you think X3 2nd will be more appropriate for those headphones?

  Hello anyone!

I'm thinking about changing my X3 fot the new X3 2nd generation....do you think is a good idea? The new version "sounds better"?

Regards
Gonzalo

No simple answer here.  The original X3 has slightly more power, and EQ is in hardware so works with high res files.  The line out is on the bottom which I like for car use.

The X3 II has the OTG feature which extends storage.  It has a more linear sound signature.  It natively plays DSD files.

Right now I still have both; but I use the X3 II more often.  I find the sound more accurate.

I have the X3 and I had the: DX50, DX100, HM602, HM802 and X5. I have demoed Paw Gold, AK100II, AK120II, AK240, DX90, X3II, HM901. I stay with the X3 cause its easier to use on the go and it sounds better or very close (close) to the others. Now add a GOOD AMP and the X3 sounds so good that those other daps will need an amp to equal the sound coming from the X3.

What amp do you recommend for the X3?
