You don't need to ask a RB developer for that. The DAC section in Clip+ doesn't go beyond 16/48 and that is hardware limit that no software can improve on. That is not to say 16/44 and 24/96 of the same music will sound the same. If the 24/96 version of the music has different mastering process (though by definition they won't be the "same" music anymore), then it could sound different from the 16/44. Sometime company re-released a HD version of their old music using a better mastering process (because they want to sell you on a higher price). The improvement has less to do with bit depth and sampling rate but more to do with mastering.
Thanks - no I didn't actually ask him - I read it in one of the other forums (it was a reply to a similar question). I was pretty sure on it - but thought better to do a bit of research first. Wouldn't have been the first time I'd put my foot in my mouth
I'm guessing the difference in the sound of the tracks could be because of the down sampling as well? Could actually be far worse downsampled than the original redbook 16/44?
