You don't need to ask a RB developer for that. The DAC section in Clip+ doesn't go beyond 16/48 and that is hardware limit that no software can improve on. That is not to say 16/44 and 24/96 of the same music will sound the same. If the 24/96 version of the music has different mastering process (though by definition they won't be the "same" music anymore), then it could sound different from the 16/44. Sometime company re-released a HD version of their old music using a better mastering process (because they want to sell you on a higher price). The improvement has less to do with bit depth and sampling rate but more to do with mastering.

Thanks - no I didn't actually ask him - I read it in one of the other forums (it was a reply to a similar question).  I was pretty sure on it - but thought better to do a bit of research first.  Wouldn't have been the first time I'd put my foot in my mouth

I'm guessing the difference in the sound of the tracks could be because of the down sampling as well?  Could actually be far worse downsampled than the original redbook 16/44?

So if you attach an amp to the X3, this thing is going to be pretty bulky.  Maybe not suited at all to a lot of travelling types.  For those who are going to buy this player, in what situtation will you be using it?  Walking to work in the morning?  On the train/plane?  Or just at home?

The X3 also has a HP out.  I don't know anything about your other players but I would expect the X3 to be able to power anything your other player plays including any iem - the ability to use an external amp just expands how many headphones you can power with it.

Unless the guy who wrote the downsampling code for RB is very incompetent, I doubt it will affect the SQ that much. In real life, adding more bit depth is usually only good for the mastering process (keeping more headroom) and not adding more information to the listener. Going higher in sampling rate is more about pushing the sampling noise higher to the inaudible region (lowering SNR) and not about getting frequency over 20kHz.

Thanks, that was really useful!

I have a J3 and ultimate ears superfi. 5 pro with custom sleeves and phonak audeo 112.  To me it sounds great, but until you know what else is out there, you can't make a sound judgement.  I can definitely tell my earphones could do with upgrading, because the bass response on the phonaks, whilst more subtle, is far more precise (although with the custom sleeves, the UEs are my preference overall).

At the moment the J3 suits my needs very well. I do a lot of travelling so need a compact player with great battery life, but not at the expense of great audio quality.  If I considered the X3, I would have to weigh up how much I'm willing to sacrifice portability and battery life in order to (maybe) gain audio quality.

We have a minimum standard for any of our portable device, means the battery life should be reach at least 8 hours, that means you can use it almost whole day and can charge it at home.

Of course, longer will be better, but the question is there are a lots of DAP can provide very long playtime. we just try to balance the size, playtime, performance, cost . Anyway, thanks for your

advice.

I couldn't disagree more with this post.  Fiio is asking us for input.  We are giving it.  They are asking because they want it to be a successful and quality product.  The decision is ultimately theirs.  I also disagree about all their products being 'great'.  Some are acceptable for the price but not great.  If some of you can't take criticism of a product that none of you even own or have a stake in I suggest some of you join any of the other gazillion fanboy threads around here or make another.  It's the placating fanboys that are out of line here.  If that's how you feel then stop posting and just buy whatever they release.  Why even participate?

Fiio:  Can you give us feedback on our new DAP please?
Fanboy:  It's perfect, everything you do is perfect.  I worship at your altar and want to have your babies.
Fiio:  Uh...gee, thx.

Sure, we will try our best to make a good products, " good products " already it the best word for us, LOL, but we will try to make a " great product", and I hope after 2, 3 years, I can still

spend so many time to discuss with you guys.

Hope it will we rechargeable with a standard usb cable

yes, it can be charged by a standard usb cable. but there are one question

We may build a USB cable which have two USB A connector, it means that you can plug the two connector to two usb ports, so you can get bigger

current from two usb ports ( the max current will reach 1A), so it will not take you too long time to charge the battery.

@feiao,

Are all those colors available, or will you decide which one/s to make? I'd prefer matte black if only one or a few make it to production. I like how everything is just either one shade or at least no 2nd or 3rd color tone is too visible. Although the all-grey with white markings on the buttons of the original design is still the best.

We have not decided the final color, but it maybe  more like black, or like the color of the edge of i9000. although the top panel is made by plastic, but we hope it can look like metal.

Thanks for your support to FiiO,  I hope we can bring more products to our user, I know lots of people support us just from our E3, and them buy all our products. So what we can do is

keep listening to our user and hope we will not make them disappointing.

that sounds handy!

i think 15+ hr battery life is a bit much in my opinion, i dont travel 16hrs a day. at least not without a break somewhere i could recharge.

Fiio: what will your international distribtion be like? really hoping i can get one of these down under

I have read almost all this thread and I think it's really interesting for a vendor to get feedback from potential customers.
I don't have the audiophile background of other members of this forum, but one thing which is very important to me, especially since Fiio is not a common brand such as Sony, Samsung with a support service in each country, is the device build quality. I'm really pissed when I buy of device from a vendor which has design of build quality flaws.

For example, a phone plug which is not correctly fixed and moves after few months of use is really annoying.
If the SQ is top but your device is fragile, it may be an ostacle for customers who want their DAP to last.

I hope it helps and I'll follow the evolution of your DAP with attention.
