The FiiO X3 Thread UPDATE: Project Back On! Read the First Post for Information.

If you're looking for suggestions on how to navigate through long lists, again the ZV:M had a very good solution. If you clicked "right" on a page with a list of music (or artists/albums) it would bring you to a side list with the letters of the alphabet that you could scroll through to quickly jump through the main list (of course, only works if you're sorted in alphabetical order). I'm sure there's other ways you guys can think up handling it, but that's just one more way for you to consider, fiio!

We will have our own UI and it is very different with the design photo!

I actually like the design in the photo. Am anxious to see what you guys come up with though. Also, I like the button placement. Like any new player, just takes a bit to get used to.

I love the design, but I don't have the opportunity to read the entire thread and I have but 1 question. What is the internal memory capacity? Or is it true that the player will only have the microSD card as it's memory? At least be able to use SDXC, and not just SDHC.

The current word is that it won't have any internal memory of it's own. The issue of SDXC vs SDHC was put to rest when it was pointed out that an SDHC reader is able to read certain types of SDXC cards (ones that aren't built to be extra fast which would be of no use in audio playback anyhow), and they would just need to make sure that their firmware design can handle >32gb of storage.

Things are looking great, 100% sure i'm giving it a shot. The fact that they're listening to users and giving the UI attention unlike Hifiman or Teclast makes it worthwhile. It definitely has potential considering the UI can progress and SDXC will make it killer

Don't really know much about Coaxial, but it's suppose to be like a optical/digital out that can be used for a DAC right?

the only difference between coaxila and optical is the way the signal travels:

coaxial: trough a strand of cable in the form of electricity.
optical: trough a strand of plastic(fiber optic) in the form of light.

you can use it with a DAC as long as it have's coaxial digital input.

In fact, the SQ through coaxial will be better than optical !

Through coaxial, (SOURECE) SPDIF OUT----COAXIAL CABLE---SPDIF IN (DECODER)

Through optical, (SOURECE) SPDIF Signal ----Electro-light converter ---light-----OPTICAL CABLE---light-----Light-Electro converter-----SPDIF IN (DECODER)

So, in most time the optical will be more complex and may have bigger jitter distortion!

But in some situation, like there are very big electromagnetic interference from the source or from outside, the optical will help to protect the signal! it can isolate the source and the decoder in electro!

I don't know if this has been asked but will the X3 be the same size and thickness as the E7? Those pics I saw earlier make it seem like it will.

The mock up looks really good but the back doesn't look as nice, maybe fiio can go for a plain steel or carbon fiber look finish instead.

Aluminum as is much > than steel for many reasons.  You can buy fake CF vinyl and put it where you want rather than drive up the cost for everyone that doesn't like it.

Yep, it probably will be around the same size as E7, perhaps a little thicker due to the screen. E11 will has about the same size as well, so you can put both together back-to-back and won't find them too awkward.

So James, any chance you can confirm for sure if there is FLAC, or lossless support other than WAV?

I only ask because the "Hi-Fi WAV Music Player" on the back makes me nervous.

It can support WAV,MP3,FLAC,APE, WMA.

Since there are lots informal APE sound track , so X3 will have problem to support any kinds of APE! even it can playback in your PC!

Also it support CUE!

Awesome!

Not a problem for me, but is there really no AAC support? I'm not sure if there's any copyrights/licensing involved but I am sure there are a lot of potential buyers who are hoping for this.

In any case, the confirmation of FLAC support has me sold. Consider this my preorder confirmation.
