The piece of crap Huddler editor crapped out on me in the middle of the post, so I won't post any more.

The E7 housing would be a clunker for an MP3 player. Seriously? It's way too big and boxy to be pocketable.

LOL, I couldn't avoid noticing that every post you wrote(on this thread) has a resemblance whit your avatar looks(don't take it serious).

now back to the thread:
I personally don't care about the looks as long as it's not too flimsy and works as supposed to I'm fine with it
I rather pay for the inside components and usability than for the looks, but that's just me.

and about the size, well I think similar to the size of the E7 is fine, smaller would mean less storage, less battery life and some times harder to operate.

When it comes to footprint - the E7 is actually perfectly fine to be a DAP - smaller in both dimensions than the Cowon S9, ipod touch and others.

But, it is much thicker than the average DAP would be certainly 13-15mm by the looks of it. Even DAPs out there which are a bit chunky it the thickness stakes like the S9 are less so.

Good thing you found the popcorn emoticon, then.

How would "smaller mean less storage"? Have you seen a 32GB MicroSDHC card?

hmm... got me there.

I was thinking: smaller = less space for all the components = less integrated storage modules. but your right, I forgot the existence of MicroSD cards.

For Me,

It needs to handily eclipse the Fuze in utility...

It CAN BE BIGGER tho, I'm actually more comfortable with a bit more of the beefy electronics, coming primarily from the iRiver H140 / iBasso D10 set.

WHAT I REQUIRE:
01. MSC USB Type
02. Drag and Drop Folder and File Management on PC (and Linux)
03. 2.4" Color Screen at minimum in 4:3 or 16:9 idk if they (FiiO) plan on video support.
04. NO TOUCHSCREEN NAVIGATION TO USE THE DEVICE. (Dealbreaker) (shivers at s:flo2)
05. TACTILE CONTROLS like buttons and wheels PLEASE. The rubberized wheel of the Fuze is very good.
06. Volume KEYS OR a Volume POTENTIOMETER (that was the best part of the s:flo2, the analogue volume wheel)
07. Lineouts: mini-type: combo analog/digital optical as the iRiver H140 used would be ideal, simpler, and keeps the # of physical ports DOWN, a plus for FiiO
08. Dimensions: I'd like to see it be similar size to the iRiver H1XX series to easily utilize the iBasso D10 and D12 units via a SysConcept Optical Interconnect.
09  Builtin Storage: either FLASH MEMORY or Toshiba IDE ZIF HDD or CF
10 Auxilliary Storage: SDXC Card Slot or at worst micro SDHC, at best, why not have both readers on board!! OR JUST SDXC cuz you CAN use an adaptor card for microSDHC
11. Casing: Metal over Plastic, stipple texture over gloss.
12. CODECS: FLAC, WAV, APE, MAD, OGG, MP3, AAC (M4A, M4P), WMA, WMA-Lossless any others I may have missed. but definitely the free ones, MP3, and the WMA's and AAC's
13. HOPEFULLY A MORE PREMIUM FOLLOW UP DAP with a larger battery (REPLACEABLE Li-ION) in a definitely good looking METAL CASE, with user replacable op-amp DIP-8 sockets onboard for LR amps and BUF.... JUST A SUGGESTION TO BE NOTED....

I want at least 20hrs battery life and Rockbox-like performance, if not Rockbox itself. Damn, just buck up and put Rockbox on it - it'll be da' bomb!!! As for storage, onboard 32gb plus microSD card slot is a MUST nowadays. Really, low capacity DAP's suck, especially for those lossless freqs!!! Go high capacity - and gimme my Rockbox!!!

I can see how the discussion is going more and more heated. Some of those feature people are demanding that are 'must have' will very likely not make it to the final product

Size wise, X3 will be close to a iTouch, more or less and maybe a tad heavier due to the thicker housing. If you want something smaller, well....

Battery life will not be ultra long, though it really depends on the final hardware FiiO choose to use.

I don't have any details on the specifics so I am just guessing: but I doubt FiiO is going to include a hard drive inside the X3. FiiO's primary focus here is to pack in as much value as possible into this product at the given asking price. I think they would not provide a ton of storage inside the player, but rather have a microSD card slot and just let users supply their own capacity.

Thansk ClieOS!

To all friend, we will listenning to all you! and will improve our design to make you happy! we are not trying to make some toy which only we will love, but we trying to make something you love!

The design of X3 is depend on the researching of current DAP, there may have over 10,000 kinds of DAP! all we try to do is find the most important features to you !

About the size, and the playtime and sound quality;

1, We can make a 100 hours playtime DAP, but it can only use 3770! I guess there are other can satisfy you, and with 3770, we can't use a individual DAC to improve the SQ;

2, We can use RK2706 from rockchip, but the support is very poor, they will not care the quality and some small bug, they just wants to sell their solution who can make over 10,000 - 30,000 per month! I guess none can sell so many DAP to audiophile!

So, the playtime will not so long, but it is enough to one day use!  also I know Sansa is very popular in here and it is great products, but we really don't want and need to make a fake Sansa or fake iPod or fake xxx!

we just wants to make something new and different and can make you happy! if you are already happy with some other DAP, I think you can tell us what more you want? that is the way we consider our products!

For example! if you have a clip+, as I know, it is cheap, good sound quality, with rockbox which includes lots of function you need, line out, and decent outlook, small size, long playtime, so why you still interested in other new DAP! I guess

there must be something you still want more or better, so just tell us, let us see if we can do ! if we can, we will go ahead! there are not means to develop a products that without any new and innovation features!

And say that they don't put Rockbox in from the start, I think they should at least make it easy enough for Rockbox developers to port Rockbox to it.

I agree 100%, but I also agree that they're giving 100% to try and create a device we'll all love. I'll wait till it hits, then get 1 and decide. I think it'll actually turn out great.
