The FiiO E10K--all-new DAC and amp stages

Oh, sorry James, I didn't know. Anyone here from FiiO?

I think I'm going to update my review and see if I can trade this for something else. This is not bad but it's not the unit I fell in love with.

I am not James

This is James: http://www.head-fi.org/u/148324/jamesfiio He's very integral to the company and I can't imagine him ever being out of a job at FiiO.

I shall always be known only as the one and only Joe Bloggs (you know, next to the billions of Joe Bloggs and Joe Sixpacks out there :p )

Ok, have an issue I'd like to solve. I just upgraded to Win 10 and started having this random problem with Foobar (my player). When I start a song, or skip, the songs will just hang. Of course this happens only when I use E10K as output. I tried all the settings (no wasapi, wasapi push and wasapi event) and still happens.

I need help. The sound of my notebook really sucks, and I can't live without my E10K.

I tried other players and VLC doesn't seem to have the problem. VLC, and Spotify player seem to have problems, as well, so does iTunes. If I restart the programs or unplug and plug the DAC again, they will work.

If a solution is uninstalling the driver, please let me know how it's done, coz I'm a bit lost here, and the drivers install automatilly once you connect the device.

Thank you lots!

On Windows 8.1 the ASIO driver leads to constant blue screens. Apparently it was designed for older systems.

The Fiio E10k was my first DAC and I'm using it for a couple of months now... I test a lot of earphones and I just wanted some entry-level DAC so my laptop's soundcard wouldbe be the weakest link in the mix. I've never ever tried any other DAC before. Reading the last few comments got me thinking, that maybe I should try something else...

Me too, but all my local headphone stores have limited audio gear to choose tho, at the price at ~70$, only E10k or Schitt Fulla are available.

Have you tried another USB cable or port? Also look at usb power mgmt like I described a few posts back.

Followed your suggestion, but the problem persisted.
You could try the FiiO ASIO driver: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dd0uda7g9inz6bk/FiiO%20E10K%20ASIO%20Driver.zip?dl=0

The ASIO driver was installed.

Following this comment, I uninstalled the ASIO driver and the problem got solved. :)

It's interesting, though, because Win 10 is very similar to Win 8.1, and ASIO drived did not cause any roblem with Win 8.1.

If the problem ever returns (I hop not), I'll try the clean install of Win 10.

Thank you guys for your suggestions!

Thank you lots!

Please try the following steps to re-install the driver

a) Connect the E10K to the computer
b) Go to Device Manager, locate the "FiiO USB DAC-E10" (under 'Sound, video and game controllers') and right click it, then choose "Uninstall"
c) Unplug the E10K from the computer and restart Windows
d) Connect the E10K to the computer again and Windows will re-install the driver automatically

well if you've found something, let me know :)

im considering increasing my budget for a little better exp

Btw E10K is still considerably better than my laptop's headphone out.

I'm waiting for Magni 2 Uber to arrive at the beginning of July, will be using the E10K as DAC, I will post an impression with my new amp paring with E10k aswell.

IMO you should keep E10K as DAC and demo some better amps. Some people said that it has a good DAC section.

i'll definitely keep the E10k, it was my first DAC, I'm attached to it (and its easier to compare an another dac if I already have one). And yes, it is definitely better my pc-s built in sound carc, thats for sure.

ill try lars & ivan-s dac in the near future (have easy acces to it), ill compare the two later :)
