+1. It sounded better after I got a good fit by adjusting the tilt on the ear cups, but I'd suggest that someone interested in them save a little more and look elsewhere.

Still pretty awesome what Massdrop is doing with AKG

Hey I was only speaking for myself.  "I wouldn't pay $120 for it."  Some folks share my tastes so I thought it might be helpful.  YMMV, IMO, etc etc.

I thought the K553 was supposed to be similar to the K551? And the K551 goes for more than 120 used and is one of only 3 headphones worth much of anything at that price... Along with the ATH 900x and the m50 what else is worthwhile in that price range? 
 
If the k553 is anything like the 551 it's a steal at that price NIB

A better question would be has anyone seen a better deal on new in box Audezes anywhere, anytime else? I haven't, though I don't know what they offered during the last Black Friday. That's the reason I got my LCD-2 from Buysonic, it was 200 off, new. Didn't sound too shabby to me at the time, of course Audeze might suddenly cut their entire line by $200 next week

My choice for a closed headphone around $200 is the SoundMAGIC HP100.  It's a bit more than the $120 K553, but I think it's easily worth the price difference.  Especially if you can get your hands on a refurb for a fraction of the price.  I've been looking for a suitable upgrade for it and honestly, I haven't heard anything under $400 that I'd replace it with.
 
Just my $0.02.  You're right, if you like the K551, the K553 at that price is probably pretty sweet.  I suspect I wouldn't like the K551 after hearing the 553, tho.  And I say this as someone who owns a Q701 and likes the AKG house sound.
