What price do you think Buysonic will be selling the Audeze LCD2's for? They say they are releasing the stock on midnight PST Sunday.

OK, decided to give them a shot.  If nothing else, I can A/B with the Beyers and ditch one or the other.  I already went down the rabbit hole with portables (now own the AKG K167, V-moda M-80, and Logitech UE6000), not going that route with my at-home setup...

I wrote an in-depth comparison between the two for another head-fier here (post 11):

The HE400 is fantastic and $199 is such a killer deal, to widen the soundstage you can do the grill mod or completely removing the grill as well.

I agree. This is a fantastic deal on a magnificent headphone. It's one of my very favorites. There are really only 2 areas where the 990 beats it: video games and aggressive genres. In every other way the HE400 beats it.

Although that site is listed as an authorized Senn retailer, it has a really low rating on ResellerRatings. I probably wouldn't buy from them myself.

Outstanding! They are really a great compliment to one another. If you want a more aggressive sound than stock, the FocusPad flattens out the recession in the upper mids, giving them some awesome bite! :)

It's funny that after successfully resisting the urge to join the K7XX Massdrop buy to give AKG a try, I ended up giving in and re-buying a headphone I got rid of quite a while ago. But at this price, I'm ok with it and not afraid to mod until the sound and comfort level are more to my liking.

Very tempting.  I already own the DT-990-- but am always up for trying something new.  For those of you who have heard, both, can you offer a quick comparison?  I love the comfort on the Beyers with the velour pads, and from the reviews it seems the HE-400 might not be quite as easy to wear for long periods?  Will my E17 drive them adequately?

I have the 990s and my son has the 400s. The 400s are harder to drive, but sound very detailed (he has a TubeMagic D1). I think the bass on the 990s is a bump more forceful. I find the 990s more comfortable. My son loves the 400s. Only way you will know is to get both!

Haha! I was not able to resist said Massdrop! But I think you chose wisely. I'm excited for the 7XX, but I'd be surprised if I end up liking it better than my HE400's. I just wanted a new "big soundstage" can for work.
