Okay, THIS

You might as well get that he400 from Moon Audio for $199. It's a bass beast, V shaped as well but a focus-a pad from an he560 levels it out better for an all-arounder. The pads are $45 and are much more comfy. .

did NOT help me remain purchase free on Black Friday like I wanted.

Still, I really do miss that bass from the HE-400. And for $238, I just ordered a new pair plus some focus pads from that Moon Audio link. Focus pads didn't exist when I sold my HE-400s a couple years ago. Oh man, what have I done??

Thanks for taking one for the team. I almost pulled trigger on it.

TBH I think the HE400 will serve you much better than even the DT990 being a planar magnetic. If you can spare the extra now I'd do it, otherwise I'm sure a BF sale on the DT990 is well priced as well and can't go wrong. The HE400 should be very good with a 600mw amp (O2 or Magni) or the E09K.

Very tempting.  I already own the DT-990-- but am always up for trying something new.  For those of you who have heard, both, can you offer a quick comparison?  I love the comfort on the Beyers with the velour pads, and from the reviews it seems the HE-400 might not be quite as easy to wear for long periods?  Will my E17 drive them adequately?

A planar magnetic for $200 is a no brainer. I'm not sure if it's the Focus or Focus-A that's recommended for the HE400 tuning. I would think it's more the latter since it's closer to the jergpad design... might want to check and possible switch to focus A?

Sennheiser IE800's are still available for $499 on ncix US site. Not sure if they're still available on the Canada site.

I wrote an in-depth comparison between the two for another head-fier here (post 11):

I've owned the DT-990 and HE400 at the same time. I think they sound somewhat similar but the mids are soo much better on the HE-400. I still have the stock pads on mine and I think they are quite comfortable although perhaps not quite as much as the DT. My ears always got so warm with the DT that I would have to take them off for a rest. This is not the case with the HE. I will have to look into the pads mentioned above as I've not tried them. If you are a speaker listener, the HE sounds like a Maggie in a headphone.

Ah, thanks for the heads-up. Just checked Moon Audio's site. They call it the FocusPad in the listing title, but the product description says FocusPad-A. I'll email them to make sure I get the "A" version.

Thanks for all of the replies.  The two sound really quite close-- and I'm about 50/50 gaming/music right now, so perhaps I'll just stick with the Beyers for the superior comfort.  I am very close to making it out of BF without a major headphone purchase.

Even unamped, running straight out of my soundcard (an old SoundBlaster X-fi Platinum with a front-panel IO), the DT-900 continue to impress me.  Though the treble is a bit spiky at times without the amp.

Thisbis just my opinion but i suppose people think the x1 will drop in price in 2 months, hence they want to get that 150 deal. 179.99 is a good deal, eapecially if you dont want to wait any longer or for the newbs but if you already had it or just wanting to try it out again...playing the waiting game might be more favorable.

Again Rudy?
Well anyway, the $150 was a one-time price fluke from the same vendor who nearly a year later is offering it for close the same price... The likelihood of being burned from waiting is high.

Not that it much matters. I'm curious if, once the KXX arrives, if you feel it has even sound quality with the MA900. Have you managed to sell that yet?
