The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

It seems like it's just a Liquid Platinum minus the tube preamp. Any idea how accurate that is?
Are you asking an 'amp topology' question? I have no idea.

Are you asking about sound? I haven't closely compared, so can't answer ... yet. (and to complicate matters, my LP isn't 'stock', having received the 'Cap-mod'. So I doubt I'll be able to give a useful answer anyway)

I will certainly compare them ... eventually.

The Shure SRH840 is $79

SO, just got these yesterday -- couldn't resist the deal. :wink:

Spent today listening to them; they sound really nice across a variety of genres (blues, rock, jazz, classical, vocalists); just plain fun/enjoyable/toe tappin/head boppin.

To my ears, they sound less 'closed' than a lot of inexpensive to mid-tier closed cans...a nice set of 'knock-around' closed cans for listening at night...honestly, a nice set of cans -- period!
Very much worth $79...thx, @zomvid :beerchug:

It's now $139.97. Lowest price to date?
I remember seeing it last year for $125 used but you're probably right, looks like lowest new price.

$424.99 for LP or LGX — 1 more day.

I own both, and recommend both. At that price I think you’d have to spend 3X or more to gain significant improvement. (Of course you do have to add in tube costs for the LP.)

While I didn’t like
mTT2 ==> LGX ==> Elite,
it turns out that
mTT2==> LGX ==> Utopia
is a great pairing. Little to no ‘sharpness’ noted, and the image/headstage is super precise. None of the ‘blurry’ effect I hear from LGX/Elite pairing

To recap, LGX paired well with:

Auteur
Utopia
Ether 2
HEKse
HE-560
HD-6XX

So-so w/ Hedds
Poor w/ Elite

Bottom line, if you’re looking to move up the mid-fi ladder without paying Summit-fi prices, I really recommend either amp. Even as an all-in-one, you’d struggle to best the LGX anywhere near that price, and you’d be able to upgrade to a great system with the addition of a quality DAC.

It does look like Mono moves their prices around frequently, so probably not your last opportunity.

How do people here order from Taobao? Can you get away with just Google Translate for most things? Which Taobao service are you guys using? I just received my orders from Aliexpress and I'm surprisingly satisfied with what I got. I'd like to try Taobao to save a little bit more $.

The LGX is admittedly not an amp that gets along with every single headphone out there. But it gets along with many, and when it does the results can be very fine.

My only complaints about the LGX are in the "what might have been, if only..." category:
  • Ditch the mid-fi-at-best delta-sigma DAC that no one asked for to begin with
  • Upgrade the tiny/blinky push button switches to switches that are larger and have more positive action
  • And upgrade the volume pot to something that doesn't have a noticeable volume bump at 10:00 on the dial, exactly where most of my headphone are just about reaching the moderately loud listening level I want.
    • That bump forces me to listen at lower or higher volumes than I prefer. The only way around it is to insert a volume pot (a passive, or a DAC w/built-in volume pot) in line ahead of the LGX (I did the latter)
Fix those 3 things and the $999 list price would make a whole lot more sense (note: I paid $799).
