That Elear is down to $550!

This is the lowest price I've seen on the Elear yet. it's quite tempting, but does anyone have experience with this seller? I'm just worried that the price of new is even less than the price of open box and used, and it seems a bit shady, I don't want to end up with a used/refurb pair. in my experience, I've always realized that if it seems too good it be true, it usually is...

No experience with them, but they appear to be a Buffalo, NY area high end retailer. That site shows full price Focal Elear.

Recent Amazon feedback has been a bit dodgy, especially since Amazon has been taking responsibility for many of their negative feedback items.

Umm, sounds like a scam on amazon. I would be careful of a clear for $800. Where did you see it at that price?

It was on Amazon, but the guy had about 150 sales under his belt and a 95% rating, so I figured it was probably real.

I've had problems with inconsistent plugs on Monoprice cables in the past, going from metal-scrapingly tight to loose enough to cause staticky sound. Do these cable/plugs have better tolerances?

Possibly. For the price (relative to other MP stuff), they should. From what I understand, MP purchased the design of these cables from Ethereal, and they were well regarded cables then.

I have a set of the shorter cables you can try out at the meet in March, but the sale might not be going then.

I would appreciate that. Missing the sale isn't a problem since the 3 footers I want are out of stock right now anyway.

Massdrop has the Mitchell & Johnson MJ2 on sale for $339. These retail for $499. Excellent sounding dynamic/electret hybrid closed back headphones. Very efficient, will run off a cellphone. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/mitchell-and-johnson-mj2-headphones?

There has been a lot of discussion of this technology earlier in this thread (starts near post 24068). M&J purchased the phones from the Chinese OEM Verisonix who developed this hybrid design. Same drivers are in the Tate & Bower at $80. If you search the thread for Tate you should find the discussion, along with links that show the many cosmetically different variations Verisonix makes.
