O2 also, low gain at about 11-12 o'clock position. It's loud enough, not sure what you mean by "not enough juice". Volume?

Yeah i think he means volume. Its putting out the same amount of "juice" regardless of the gain setting.

Yep low volume but more importantly  lack of dynamics, detail. In contrast with my K701 amplified, the dt880 lacks color and just sounds dull and uninteresting. The dt880 is supposed to have decent soundstage even compared to the AKG, but for whatever reason, the soundstage is virtually non-existent.

My O2 amps it perfectly and I only go half way.

Yeah the O2 likely can't do 600Ohm headphones justice, yes you will get volume, but that doesn't mean it's 'sufficiently amped'. My solid-state Zero DAC likely has more output than the O2 and even that struggles with them; the dynamics are flat, the extension is limited and they have no impact. In fact listening now had I auditioned the DT880s on this amp I wouldn't have bought them, they're nothing special.

Would someone mind posting a pic of your DT880 from the side, please? It would be extremely helpful.

Scratch the Mojo/Gungir idea, editing the post. Should I get the Asgard 2? Would that be a lot better than the O2?

Personally I like to go for amps with oodles of power since my main cans are all high impedance and I want to get the best out of them. I'm not sure what the power output of the Asgard 2 is (Schiit doesn't seem to like to publish those kind of specs). I would recommend the Lake People G103. At only ~ $250 you'd be getting both a good value and a lot of power for the money. It puts out 1130 mW into 50 ohms, 850 mW into 300 ohms, and 530 mW into 600 ohms which is a lot more than most of the other amps at that price.

EDIT: Had the specs wrong.

EDIT 2: Looks like they did publish the power output specs for the new Asgard 2:

Maximum Power, 32 ohms: 1.0W
Maximum Power, 50 ohms: 1.0W
Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 380mW
Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 190mW

My solid-state desktop amp doesn't power the 600Ohm DT880s ~ I wouldn't think any portable amplification would stand a chance, certainly not too OTL tube amp standards.

I have a Matrix M Stage and a FiiO E09K.
Neither has any problem driving my DT880/600.
But I'm not a big fan of the Matrix with the DT880s. Rather dull and lifeless.
The E09K sounds better to me.

The best sound I have ever heard out of the DT880s was the headphone jack on an Audiolab M-DAC..............crystal clear and wide open sounding.

That's likely the source, the 880s are very revealing. I think even the M-DAC would be improved if paired with a powerful tube amp.

Much as I like tube amps (and I've owned several) I think a good tube amp would sound different, but not really better.
When it comes to tube amps, I admit that I enjoy the little touch of distortion even the best ones add.

I don't really get all this "more juice" and "sufficiently amped" stuff.
You drive the 'phones with enough good clean, clear voltage........:xf_eek:

I see you have the La Figaro 336C in your sig, surely your 880s sound better from this. I use the 336i (Darkvoice) with the Tung-Sol 5998, an absolute must have with the 880s!
