I love the DT880's bass. It's so tight and controlled with excellent extension. Easily has the best bass out out all my headphones (well maybe not K702 quality).

Last night I was listening to Rodrigo y Gabriela-Ixtapa. There was so much bass coming from these. I have never heard so much bass out of a DT880. It sounded a little congested and maybe a tad bloated, which is the first I ever experienced. Maybe I am just not familiar with what an acoustical guitar sounds like and I expected something different. Or maybe my Zero DAC is holding me back. Nonetheless I recommend everyone to buy the album. Very well recorded

I am selling my Grado HF-2 and MAD Ear+ HD to a friend in favour of my M^3 and DT880 600ohm, so that certainly says something. Especially since I almost exclusively listen to rock and metal

Oh, I hate boombass of the Denon or Ultrasone sort, but the 880'600 is positioned a bit in the other extreme IMO...

+1
That's why I couldn't keep the D5k. Bloat, and as you said 'boombass'. (Is that like bombast?). Other than that, from about 300hz up, the D5k has some truly amazing tonality. Wonderful acoustic realism.

And as for part 2 of your comment, yes if I had to find a fault of the DT880/600 it would be that slightly thin coolness. They really require a slightly 'warm' source to bring it back in line...

Been looking around for the best price on this ones, but i guess in EU it sucks.
Through amazon.co.uk i only find the 250 ohm version, not the 600, somebody
can point me out a trusty reseller in EU?
I was tempted to buy directly to Beyer, but with all the customizations it gets to expensive.
Thanks!

Cheapest way to get a DT880'600 it is ordering the 600 ohm systems (2x 50€), the housings (2x 20€), the pads (2x15€ or so) and some cheap old crap Beyer from Ebay (in order to get a headband & a cable). You need to rebuild the inner damping materials though, and the Beyer spare part shop isn't accessable for everyone worldwide (actually Germany only).

I personally used a new Superlux HD660 (35€) as headband source, so my DT880'600 was 175€ in total (I had pads already in my inventory).

Not a bad way to do it. I'm actually looking to fix up a headband dead ultrasone dj1pro and that sounds perfect.
