I just got the dt880 pro 250 and was wondering if anyone has paired it with an otl amp? I see a lot of talk about the 600 ohm and otls but not the 250. I have a little dot 1+ and was thinking about picking up an Mkiii or mkiv since I already have the drivers for it.

Had a Valhalla for a couple years with mine and it worked fine. Valhalla definitely isn't a relaxed presentation though, regardless of tubes rolled.

That's okay I'm looking for details and clarity with a slightly bigger bottom end than the magni is giving.

The DarkVoice 336SE just plopped down on my doorstep

, and I'm quite excited to run this amp with the 880s. Brought my e07k/e09k combo to work, so now I'm looking for a DAC that would play nice with the DV336 at home. I'm not necessarily looking for a ton of warmth, really enjoy the 880's sound as is. Bus powered would be best, but not necessary. Was considering the Modi. Budget around $200. Thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Tried these with an iPhone 5s on the back porch drinking a coffee this morning and shocked to say the 250 ohm version sounds great with just an iPhone.

Congratulations!
I have a La Figaro 336C myself, it was my favourite amp with my 600 Ohm DT880s.

Same w/ the 600 ohm version.

I thought it sounded good too, the only problem was I ran out of volume on some less compressed tracks.

A nicely balanced headphone with good extension on both ends, high levels of detail and good sound stage. The highs are definitely less fatiguing than the 250 ohm version. Regarding sibilence, I don't detect any when driven by the Raptor. At 600 ohms these cans cry out for a good OTL tube amp.

Hello, how are the dt 880 600 ohm in terms of bass response? I can see there is still a spike in the upper frequency region with the 600ohm, but does it afect the overal sound? I like them because they are similar in sound compared to the T1 and hd800 looking at the graphs.

The bass is tight, quick, and snappy. However, the bass lacks impact when compared to more mid-bassier cans. The treble spike does make cymbal hits sound a bit tizzy, and can sound mildly sibilant if your ears are not used to it. However it also brings incredible detail and imaging. From my brief experiences with the HD800 the DT880/600 sounded pretty similar, but the HD800's treble is slightly tamer.

Thanks, i´m interested in the 600 ohm version. What about using EQ to reduce a bit the treble spike and use the extra bass function of an amp, do you think is worth it, to get even better sound?

I rarely find the DT880's highs too much for me. I amp them with a LD MKIII with the EI Yugoslavian driver tubes. The yugo's are more laid back and "tubey" sounding vs say the Voshkod which to me has a hotter treble. Works wonders with the DT880, I'm sure other amps would work well also as long as they are not already leaning toward the highs. I like the detail of the DT880.

Personally I love the DT800/600 the way it is. I was overwhelmed at the treble at first, coming from warmer headphones but after getting used to them if I EQ down the treble everything sounds boring. Of course, it's perfectly viable to EQ the treble/bass to your own preferences; you should tweak around with EQ after you get your pair to find the kind of sound that you like.

Congratulations! I have recently received a similar amp.

Modi 2 Uber paired with Wyrd is arguably one of the best values in DACs. Do not buy if not getting the Uber. The linear power supply is crucial here.

Edit: I see you said Bus powered. Geek Out 450, ODAC or Modi 2 non Uber.
