Returned the K712s and ordered a pair of dt880 PROs. They should arrive on Tuesday. Hope they won't sound too harsch. I've owned the premiums for a while and returned them. They were very fatigueing, almost painful. Time for another try, this time with my G-109. Whish me luck.

My practically brand new dt880s are making a very tiny paper rustling type of noise from the right ear between 10-20hz. Wouldn't have noticed it unless I'd decided to do a frequency sweep. Anything I can or should do about it?

The tangs that the voice coil wires and headphone wires attach to on the DT series driver's are just press fit into the plastic and they can pull out very easily which will break the voice coil wire.

If you are lucky you can reattach the broken wire to the centre tang (moving the headphone wires to a different tang), if it breaks at the bottom you will need a new driver.

So IF you are going to change the cable on the DT series, be aware of this fact and treat the drivers with utmost care while removing them from the cups.

I think just about everyone who has modded the DT series has broken a voice coil wire, myself included. Luckily we were all able to reattach it without having to purchase a new driver.

The dual Tiny xlr jacks (wired as LCD) are so nice on the DT880 Pro's compared to the stock coiled cable. This is a mod I would do to all my headphones if there was room in the cups for the socket, then all you need is any LCD cable and you are good to go.

Thought I'd add to the appreciation-side of the thread, so I figured I'd take a beauty shot of my new DT880/250s. Camera used is a Nikon D5100.
They are not ugly, that is for sure.

The merry go round has kinda stopped. Sold my T1s, keeping the T90s, spent some of the money on a pair of q701s. :xf_eek: Got it out of curiosity, I'll probably sell it and rebuy the 880/250 sometime down the line. :D

Check the membrane on the drivers. They're easy to get to. They should be domed and rounded out. If they're not, you can try adjusting them. Another cause might be stray hairs making their way onto the drivers.

  Fatiguing in what way?

The highs have been very annoying and somewhat plinky sounding, but I didn't use them with an amp. Had to take them off after 20 minutes. Hope my G-109 will solve this issue. Never had such problems with my K701 or HD650.

I won't be difficult and ask you what 'plinky sounding' means. No wait, I will!

Clanking, metallic, sibilant in a grainy way. I had to put them off after a while. My dt880 Pros are arriving tomorrow and I really hope my amp and burn-in will eliminate this. The Highs are the only flaw that is bothering me, but it's a big one.
