Is there really a big difference between the 250 and 600 version or is it just placebo?

+1 on the 250'sI would get the 250, it's more versatile since you can still power it with a portable device.
Can my Fiio E12 drive the dt880 600 ohms?
Also, I know the premium version has kind of bigger soundstage, but less bass. Does it have a lot less bass?
Welcome to Head-Fi; conflicting accounts galore!
I owned the 650 and a 600ohm 880 at the same time and I preferred the 880 myself for virtually all music. I listen to a fair amount of rock/metal, although I now prefer to listen to music with dynamics so less metal and rock now. The 650s have a seductive lushness and are indeed lovely, but I always felt they were just a little smoother than I wanted. The 880s were perhaps less forgiving with some music, but they were also more toward the neutral/accurate side which ultimately appeals to me. I found rock and metal more engaging with the 880s.
Metal is good as long as the recordings are good quality. I found that I couldn't stand some of my favorite Metallica tracks with them because the albums were poorly mastered. They sounded better on more forgiving hps like the hd600s or M-100s or speakers.
Some of the old stuff like the Beatles, I can't stand listening to on HPs w/o some kind of crossfade filter. It's too unnatural. !_!

Thanks for your reply! Regarding Fiio E12 and the 600 ohm version, does it have the horsepower to drive them?
Cheers
Yes it does, there is this misconception that you need a TON of power to drive a 600 ohm Beyer, honestly you do not. I feel into the trap of IT's NOT ENOUGH POWER and now I own all balanced amps :/ which get's expensive
That said the E12 is rated at about 850mW into 32 ohms, I'd imagine it can at least push about at least 80 or so into 600 ohms, crank the gain on high and it should be just fine. I ran my DT 880 600 ohm out of a crap tastic Desktop PC once... it got plenty loud, and the E12 isn't some push over crap tastic amp. Its a solid choice not the best, there are better but it is a first start

If I am not mistaken, there is a different power supply available for the O2 that will allow more power hungry headphones to work. This is now available from JDS Labs, according to an article I read.

It's possible there is, the O2 is on the big side, but I belive the O2 has the same power specs [or simmilar specs] to the Fio E12
So yea you could get an O2 with a bit more power but it's not as portable as an O2
still at the end of the Day the DT 880 is sensitive enough to be driven from amps like the O2 and the E12
plus it's only rated for like 120 mW, which into 600 ohms... your hearing would go before the drivers would I believe
Blow your brains out your left ear like a hairball.

Twice... They would end up being two weeks ahead. :evil:I bet he has a parting gift now Tinnitus, if some one maxed out the volume on my NFB15.32 with my DT880 premium 600, I'd Punch them into next week.
