Can my Fiio E12 drive the dt880 600 ohms?

Also, I know the premium version has kind of bigger soundstage, but less bass. Does it have a lot less bass?

To answer your E12 question:

It sure can.
I use my 600 Ohm DT880s with my E12 all the time.
Set the gain to 16 dB and you'll never run out of volume.

Welcome to Head-Fi; conflicting accounts galore!

And never ask which is brighter; the DT880 or the AKG Q701...........................

I owned the 650 and a 600ohm 880 at the same time and I preferred the 880 myself for virtually all music. I listen to a fair amount of rock/metal, although I now prefer to listen to music with dynamics so less metal and rock now. The 650s have a seductive lushness and are indeed lovely, but I always felt they were just a little smoother than I wanted. The 880s were perhaps less forgiving with some music, but they were also more toward the neutral/accurate side which ultimately appeals to me. I found rock and metal more engaging with the 880s.

Thanks for the info Sonic Defender, I think i should get both for starters and then compare which i like more eventually after listening to them extensively before i chuck one out if i ever do. simply thinking if one might be better than the other may not help me much to decide which sounds better after a few hours / weeks of use..

Metal is good as long as the recordings are good quality. I found that I couldn't stand some of my favorite Metallica tracks with them because the albums were poorly mastered. They sounded better on more forgiving hps like the hd600s or M-100s or speakers.
Some of the old stuff like the Beatles, I can't stand listening to on HPs w/o some kind of crossfade filter. It's too unnatural. !_!

Thanks, I do have most of my music as FLAC files, but if they sound harsh or not upto the mark, i will think about buying the original versions on HDTRACKS or QOBUZ eventually for those albums which i like.

Thanks for your reply! Regarding Fiio E12 and the 600 ohm version, does it have the horsepower to drive them?

Cheers

Yes it does, there is this misconception that you need a TON of power to drive a 600 ohm Beyer, honestly you do not. I feel into the trap of IT's NOT ENOUGH POWER and now I own all balanced amps :/ which get's expensive

That said the E12 is rated at about 850mW into 32 ohms, I'd imagine it can at least push about at least 80 or so into 600 ohms, crank the gain on high and it should be just fine. I ran my DT 880 600 ohm out of a crap tastic Desktop PC once... it got plenty loud, and the E12 isn't some push over crap tastic amp. Its a solid choice not the best, there are better but it is a first start

although I would HIGHLY recommend you stick with the 250Ohm Pro version, sonically there is little to no differeance between the 600 ohm and 250 ohm, the BIGGEST differance is how well they pair with amps, if your using a DT 880 portable or it's your first headphone. Get the 250 Ohm.

If your some one who owns a POWERFUL amp, and were talking at least 2w into 32Ohms kinda of power [Looking at you Tubes and most balanced Amps] then yea the 600 ohm might be better, but again if this is your first headphone get the 250 as the 600 is costly for little reason... other than it's better suited to play nicely with powerful amps

Still the E12 should do just fine with an DT 880 600 Ohm

You could also look into getting the iBasso PB1, it's what I used with my DT 880 [mine cost me like $60] some can be had for around $100, and they have a good bit of power even SE out

If I am not mistaken, there is a different power supply available for the O2 that will allow more power hungry headphones to work. This is now available from JDS Labs, according to an article I read.

It's possible there is, the O2 is on the big side, but I belive the O2 has the same power specs [or simmilar specs] to the Fio E12

So yea you could get an O2 with a bit more power but it's not as portable as an O2

still at the end of the Day the DT 880 is sensitive enough to be driven from amps like the O2 and the E12

plus it's only rated for like 120 mW, which into 600 ohms... your hearing would go before the drivers would I believe

I know i know, pics or it didn't happen but... it was a scary moment for me >.> and a happy one

I bet he has a parting gift now Tinnitus, if some one maxed out the volume on my NFB15.32 with my DT880 premium 600, I'd Punch them into next week.
