  Guess I'm sticking to my DT880's then..

U might like the DT 990 out of a tube though. I'm still not a tube fan so I prefer Solid State, meaning there's not much any solid state can do to warm up 990 mids but again, if your cool with tubes the 990 might have the mids of the 880 or better and some awesome bass as well!

And not all tubes bring the bass... I have two pairs that present a decent bass, and a pair of 6AV6's where the treble is so sharp it will cut hair.

The E09K will provide more bass than my tube amp will.

So get some Q40's with a set of Mad Dog Alpha pads and it will shake your eyeballs. :basshead:

No no no, not saying the tubes will give you bass, the tubes will add mids to the Dt 990s bass. THe dt 990 has the bass the tube would add the mids it lacks

I agree, the DT 990s on tubes are great and really helps bring forward the mids and took some of the edge off the treble, I loved them on tubes, sounded much more balanced while keeping that thunderous bass, I didn't like them on SS amps at all though. I personally liked the DT 880 a lot better on tubes as well, to my ears the DT 880 and a SS amp didn't mix well. I just don't like Beyers without tubes. I'm personally a tube lover, they sound more natural and transparent to me than SS amps. It all comes down to preference.

Well I too liked the DT 990 on tubes, but I enjoyed the extra detail and conhension my balanced Solid state brought to the sound stage of teh Dt 880.

I haven't heard the DT 880 balanced yet, I am curious to what changes it makes to the sound. When I auditioned the DT 880, I found them a bit sterile sounding unless they were on tubes. I am thinking of grabbing a pair of DT 880 Pros sometime, would be interesting to hear them compared to my K612, which is another very linear headphone.

The sound is still very linear but there is more width and detpth and the mids and bass really gain some nice  weight. and Clarity

Sounds like quite the improvement, the improvement to the mids sounds especially nice. Any changes in the treble response? I am quite sensitive to treble response, although I always found the treble on the DT 880 and DT 990 mostly grain-free despite being on the bright side so it never bothered me too much, but it can wear me down after an hour or so if I don't EQ the treble spike down a couple decibels or so.

the improvement is not HUGE but it's noticeable. 
 
Treble is about the same, a smidge more air but other wise pretty much same high quality Beyer highs

Hi All,
I know this is probably a noob question but here it goes:
I own the 600ohm version of the DT880s and for a while been noticing that the right channel is a bit louder than the left channel. For a while I thought that it was an issue with the volume pot on my Bravo V2 amp but I just finished building a Crack OTL amp and the same thing. I then decided to measure the impedance on both drivers and the right driver is 590ohms vs left driver 600ohms. Is this normal?

I can't say for sure about the impedance difference, but as far as the volume difference, have you tried flipping the headphones around or trying different headphones to see if the issue might be your own hearing? I have a slight imbalance, biased toward my left ear. I never noticed it until I started listening critically when I got my DT880.

If I recall correctly, isn't having left and right drivers that actually test as different impedances a common Beyerdynamic issue? I'm not sure if that could be a possible explanation?

I doubt that I would hear a 10 Ohm difference between drivers but it is possible.

Mine were off by 50 ohms, could definitely hear that.  Replaced to a driver match of 3 ohms diff from Pete at Beyer.....good now.  Ten should be within their tolerance +/- !

Was this on new cans or something that changed over time?
It was good that beyerdynamic looked after them, did they replace them no charge?
