The Audio Technica W3000ANV Thread

Vlach,
While I wouldn't throw a set of Sennheisers into a duffel bag that I keep under the kitchen sink at the end of the day, it's just that they're not made by elves out of endangered Japanese cherry trees with 200 coats of lacquer, give or take. It's cool that people like us appreciate and take care of well built stuff the way we do. On second thought, does Germany have elves?

Hi, I'm having a financial emergency and am trying to sell my Annies in the forums here. But I'm having trouble. They are in really nice condition but the original owner had a Neutrik XLR plug installed in-line with the original 1/4" plug, so they can be used balanced or single-ended. Also including new Alpha Dog pads, all the original packing materials and asking $950. Is that reasonable?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

I think this may largely due to your mod - people get this phone largely for collection, so a modded one is not that easy to go.

Thanks for your input. It didn't occur to me that it would lower the resale value, but I see your point. The mod was done quite seamlessly, and retained all of the original cable and the pretty wood plug.

If anyone is interested in this headphone, please PM me.

I thinking about picking up a pair of these.

From what I've heard about their musicality and the way these present vocals, they sound perfect in that sense. But there's quite a lot I'm concerned about. I like darker sounding headphones with rich mids like the HD650 and LCD2 Pre Fazor, but the W3000's seem to be quite neutral. Comparisons to the T1 are quite common, which was a headphone I couldn't stand. I'm also very sensitive to treble.

To give you more of an idea, I recently picked up a LCD-3C, thinking that it would be dream headphone. Unfortunately they just come across as flat, unengaging and with a midrange that is too distant for me. I like intimacy from my headphones.

If not the W3000's is there anything else someone would recommend?

Based on your description I don't think these will be for you. Even than the W3000ANV are much less bright than most of the AT headphones I think they have all what you want.
If you have a chance try to audition the Sony
Z1R. I think they are more on line with your taste.

As beautiful as these headphones look, I had a feeling that might be the case

the treble is refined, almost delicate but it's the midrange that defines the w3000anv. definitely not a "neutral" presentation to my ears and the comparisons to the t1 are surprising. agree that the z1r has a darker presentation.

I don't get it, this article talks about the W3000...which came out 5 years ago?

They make it sound like they will re release it at November this year. I'm just wondering if this is fake news.
