No doubt we are hearing things differently, and I wanted to post this comment by LFF in his review of the DBAs. He has heard the JH13s, the 530s and many, many other IEMs. This is in regard to the "real thing" comments you posted.

Below, from Luis' review on the DBAs...he (and I) hear them as natural, the "real thing," so there you go. Our real thing and yours ... totally different. That is at the heart of this: we all have what we think sounds like the real thing, and that works.

Also, for the very first time, I actually found a universal IEM that comes close to replicating the sense of power, soundstage and full authority of my full size headphones. The sound is full but completely natural and I LOVE that. The sound of these IEM’s really opened up when I plugged them into my mastering rig. The better your source, the better these IEM’s will sound.
Not only do the DBA-02’s sound better that all the universal IEM’s I have heard but I also found them to be more comfortable than others. The DBA-02’s really sound amazing and I recommend them highly, especially considering their price and the high quality sound they put out. These are truly world-class in terms of sound. I can only imagine what these would sound like if you bought them and had them remolded into customs.

You should post this in the DBA thread instead of keep pushing them in the SM3 appreciation thread, where you were recently accusing others of taking the thread off topic.

Twas a pleasure to spread the gospel according to Sensorcom and Earsonics.  I count 75 pairs of tips will have been despatched by the end of this week.

Eric - you name him that and the poor kid's gonna need therapy.

What's the durability like on these?  I would love to get these, but I would hate to spend this much money on something that's going to be dead in 2-3 years.  I don't treat my electronics bad by any means, but things happen, parts can fail, and what I like about the Etys I recently got is the stories of great customer service even after the 2 year warranty expires...also stories of people having them for 7-13 years.  Can I expect the same durability out of these and commitment to their product out of EarSonics?

IMO/E, no.  I thought I was going to snap off the nozzle every time I changed tips.  It was a PITA getting them out of your ears w/o resorting to using the cable.  I was able to remove them by barely pinching the housing but what a pain.  The housing felt better than it looked in photos but not confidence inspiring.  I purchased them w/ a plan was to reshell them since I figured they would break inevitably.  Sadly they didn't give me enough of an upgrade to warrant sticking to my plan.

Last batch of tips just mailed out to all you lucky people who requested them.

Just a note - be very careful when trimming the stalks.  You shouldn't need to cut much off to get the best fit, depending on your ears.

Enjoy.

Sorry, I've finished the offer now - have sent loads out already and its tough to find all the time to repackage and send them and deal with it all right now, so I'd prefer to take a back seat for a while...

Anybody else in UK prepared to step up and help?

How much do you charge the tips? I can look into it if it's not too expensive.

i feel this appreciation thread lacking of some SM3 pics :)

dsci0029s.jpg

i been with the SM3 for couple of weeks now and oh boy they still amaze me but there's only one problem everything else sounds like %$#^, the SM3 realy made my ears very selective about sound quality.

when i share the SM3 with folks i noticed they only fit perfectly to medium-large size ears, with small size ears they hang in the air so to everyone who think of buying a pair i suggest take it in mind

^ Thats a great couple of pics mate.

Did you try turning off that Stereo Enhancement on the Cowon?  I find it better without on my J3.

Those pics are also a good illustration of the sort of stalk length you want on the sensorcom tips too - just enough of a trim so the body of the SM3 sits in your ear and provides a good seal.

I also see you have cut the cable tie!  Good recipe for non-strangulation that one....

Back this morning from a long-weekend break. My new UM3X arrived soon after I did. Here's a few photos. Will post impressions later.

Please note I sold my SM3s at the weekend they were shipped earlier today. I managed, however, to do a quick 30-minute comparison between the UM3X and SM3. So, I won't be able to do more direct A/B'ing which would include the SM3. But, I still have the 535s and later today I'll A/B them against my UM3X, which are currently burning-in for a few hours.
