S12 are planar and love power, so you'll benefit from a decent stack. I have the iFi ZEN DAC and CAN stack and love it - if you're in the US, I think a Schiit stack would be more than enough for buds.I'm planning on getting the Serratus (or the black Sand once reviews and impressions come out).
How much power do I need in order to drive them and get good sound from them? This would be my first amp purchase. Would something simple like the Ifi Uno suffice, or should I shoot for $100 amps like the jds atom or schiit heresy, or even more power?
My other gear that would also benefit from getting that first amp is: AudioTechnica ATH-AD700 (OG), LetShuoer S12s, which are not exactly power hungry.

Will it good with metal genre?Just had this realisation:
Desolation Sound is the amalgamation of the best attributes of Sunniva and Serratus.

Thanks, that's a great outline to work with. Shame the magni doesn't come with a 4.4mm input. I'll see if I can find a good amp in the $100~150 price range with a 4.4 input. You can think of their drivability as an earbud version of the HD6XX, but considering they come default with 4.4mm balanced, you could find uber dongles like VE Prime + RA-2BFE Amp to drive them, or any amps with 4.4mm inputs.

Love that you're quite honest with your preference. It's a matter of preference with two buds. The fast bass decay might be due to the burn-in, because I found them to be quite slow to the Serratus at first listen.

Couldn’t agree more, my Sunni’s are the perfect partner to my Serratus not a competitor….A great review which aligns with most of my thoughts and findings

I’m happy to see my technique being spread.I did the same thing with my APWS!!
If people listened to me more, they'd understand that the soundsport wired bose earbud has invented the absolute greatest fit of all time, but no other earbud maker is paying attention.
Excellent review of Jim's wonderful creation Guy! Enjoyed the pictures too!

I’ve had about a week with the Desolation Sound, listening almost exclusively to them. I’ve never had a high-end earbud before these, so my point of reference would be JVC Gumy buds. The Gumy has two advantages: comfort but only by a little (the buds are tiny), and of course price. The DS, as expexted, just kills the $10 buds in any audio quality aspect you would care to name be it staging, transparency, resolution, the frequency response, etc. Just very, very impressed with them.
