Interesting that STAX choose to release 009BK anniversary edition after introducing 009S. And price diiference between 009BK and 009 is about $300.
Black looks so sick! :anguished:

SR-009S owners, which inner lining do you have? (1) or (2)/(3)/(4)?

Cheers for the response. I didn’t get a definitive response at the Fujiya show this past weekend. I’m gonna assume they just switched to the regular 009 dust covers for their demo 009S unit cos the original has worn off.

I'm actually going from the LCD-4 to the Sr007a. I'm hoping I'll like the Sr007a better. Also speaking of build quality, I sold my LCD-4 which was the latest 200 Ohm version and it experienced a driver failure in the mail on the way to the buyer.

That shouldn't be a problem with Audeze. They give 3 year warranty and it is transferable to a new owner. Many including Stax only give 1 year and it is not transferable I believe. Focal don't do transferable as well.

The buyer is trying to get warranty repair on them. They're still under warranty.

Thanks to all the people who have compared the 009 and 009S. Despite the more laid back signature of the 009S, is the detail level still the same (or better) as compared to the 009? I was pretty sure I wanted the 009S when it was announced but now that I have a better understanding of my preferences (probably prefer bright) I am just not as sure now. Plus they announced the black 009 and I am a sucker for limited edition stuff.

I would most likely be using a 353X which I have heard is a brighter amp (or perhaps a T1S or actual T2 if I got lucky enough to find one working since I still have vintage Omega setup dreams). I know it is almost unanimous to suggest a non Stax amp but between the channel imbalance issues and warranty as well as the fact that in my experience amps don't make much of a difference for me (with non electrostatic gear to be fair) and just the fact that I want to stay with the Stax brand, I'm gonna at least start off with a Stax amp.

Can't answer your main question but the original T2 was highly unreliable at best and not a worthy purchase. Electrostatic headphones are a completely different experience especially the upper echelon; all of a sudden not only do amps matter much more, but DACs and interconnects too.

Even if your budget is tight there are non Stax amps to consider like the Mjolnir Audio Octave 2. Though I find that if you can't afford a top tier amp AND DAC, then the SR-009 is not worth it. It becomes unremarkable. The SR-007 however always sounds great.

009 and 353x is good enough. Heck some saying the 009 and the protable D10 is great together.

Maybe start small and work your way up the ladder first. You might end up liking the less expensive gear than the over the top gear.
