Hi man, honestly Fiio E6 sounded great for me with an iPod 5.5

HP 150 do loosen up over time! Their mids are now just perfect, they're almost midcentric to me!

Having tried a lot lately I continuously discover how great these headphones are

Hey guys. Sooooo my HP100 went rippy dippy. The damn arm holding the cup broke. So I decided to break out the soldering iron and transplant the HP100 driver into my Beyer COPP's housing. Using some Brainwavz velour on them and I am VERY happy with the results. They are pretty neutral now with the bass port closed but kick really hard with the ports open without sounding boomy. The awesome attack is still very much present and the treble is still quite nice and sparkly and the mids seem less recessed now too. Very simple to do and i have my HP100 back, but dare I say improved?

That's very interesting. I can imagine that the HP100 drivers would fit (along with the plastic diaphragm), but you probably wouldn't be able to have the drivers held in place with the clamp rings. I am assuming that the only thing that holds your drivers in place are the earpads, am I right? Do you get any rattling at high volumes with the your headphones?

Is there a consensus on the best earpad replacement for hp100? Or a few options varying in price?

I quite like my shure alcantera pads. They breathe very nicely and are super comfy. Much deeper than the stock. They are slightly oval shaped but still fit great on the headphones. Can be had for forty dollars on amazon. I didn't notice any significant change in sound with them vs the stock pads.

Thanks for the rec. I'm trying to decide between the shure alcantera and the beyer velour. My stock pads are work and flaking black stuff all over my face. I know I'm an outlier for the forum but it's annoying to pay $40 for replacement pads for $150 headphones

Luckily I have recently bought a great DAC in the Cambridge Audio Dacmagic XS which is a nice fit for the HP 100s, just £49 (When it came on the market years back it was circa £200. It's very detailed and airy and has great control over bass... so brings out even more detail in the hp100s.

I keep writing "HP1000" as I've been posting bout Dunu DN 1000s the last week :frowning2:

I'm hearing quite a big difference between the 100s and 150s.

HP100 - Tighter and deeper bass. Smoother treble.

Hp 150 - More prominent treble, sibilance is bad but highs are more detailed.

Mids are very similar, both excellent. I much prefer the 100s.

I have the HP150 but I'd love to try the HP100. IF there's one thing i'd like its less bass on the hp150....

Their price seems to have doubled, what's up with that? Not a chance I'd buy em if they're not drastically better than the hp150s. Its 300$ and 300 EUR in EU

But I am getting a pair of HP200 anyways.

Hooray guys, looks like a replacement cable is coming out!

From Soundmagic (email)

"Hi Ivan,
A replacement cable will be available from August onwards. It will be a direct replacement for the included cable so no microphone, I'm afraid. As soon as we have stock, it will be available from all SoundMAGIC dealers.
Best regards,
Mark"

Great news. I emailed them last year in March about being able to buy the one that comes with the HP150/200 as the 100 comes with the coiled one. I had never heard back, though.

Have you had a chance to try both? I'm extremely interested in HP100 to add to my SoundMAGIC collection, if it retains the same signature/stage but has less bass. Their price is going up so I want opinions.

I have only heard the HP100.

Hey guys a headsup all soundmagic products, including HP150/HP200 are half price over at hifiheadphones.co.uk till 19th of July - i just ordered a pair of HP200, will post impressions next week.

Thanks for this link. I only just saw your reply to one of my posts above. I personally find the 100 a much better headphone than 150. It's treble isn't as hot and sounds just right. Bass wise its hard to call from memory now, but the 100's bass is deep but tighter. I'm very interested in the 200
