I could not agree more! Sounds really good with Lyr 3, as well. This headphone with a 4 pin XLR running on a Gumby and MJ2 with the right tube, is a match made in heaven. It scales up well and competes with just about everything else I own. It also sounds really good SE out of the Project Ember 2.
This HP may be the best bang for the buck for what it’s selling for on this site.

I currently have the Oppo HA-2, I know there was one person on here who enjoyed the Z7 with theirs. If I get the Z7 do I really need a balanced dac/amp to get the best out of them or are there people here satisfied with a regular dac/amp? Otherwise I would look at the PHA-2A.

I listen from an iPhone and they sound good enough for me. I had a Dac amp that made them sound a bit better but it died.
Really enjoyable; really comfortable.

I run with a HA-2 and sometimes the DFR on an IPhone (both non balanced) and they both sound great. The HA-2 sounds better just due to the fact it has more power and the way it drives them, it’s cleaner and more detailed. Just don’t use the bass boost as it becomes VERY bloated.
I think you’d be happy if that was your only amp/DAC.

Any ideas on what 'improvements' would be made in the the MKii?

I want to know that too, perhaps include easy to exchange pads like Z1R, included 4.4 connector, that fibonacci grillAny ideas on what 'improvements' would be made in the the MKii?

How about an improvement in sound quality? Tighter bass, more damping with better imaging. Keep the existing form factor.

As its a MK2 I assume it'll be like the MDR-1AM2 with the new grill, included 4.4mm cable and tighter bass. Most of the feedback of the 1AM2 seems to be quite positive so I might wait for this new model. Any idea how long it usually takes from these initial info releases until they're available for purchase? I'll be in Japan for new year, perhaps too early?

should be around the new year I think. The 4.4 mm is not a big deal to me since I can do my own cable termination. Hoping for a better sounding Z7. I love the aesthetic and the look of it.

It's a handy addition but the benefits of cable upgrades means I wouldn't even use it.should be around the new year I think. The 4.4 mm is not a big deal to me since I can do my own cable termination. Hoping for a better sounding Z7. I love the aesthetic and the look of it.

They posted an update, the MDR-Z7M2 will be an upgrade to the original MDR-Z7 and still entry level to the mdr-z1r
