Hey, can anyone recommend a quality but not too expensive 4.4mm balanced cable for the MDR-z7?

This one is good and has the original ear cup connectors.
For Sony MDR-Z7 MDR-Z7M2 MDR-Z1R Headphone 4.4mm Balanced to 3.5mm Replaceable Cable
From Aliexpress. Earmax. $49.99

Don't think I'm ever ordering from Aliexpress again. First two cables were defective.

Figure I’d share this post here as well.
Through some mighty trail and error I found an EQ profile that does a great justice to my ears at least, for the MDR Z7 MK1.

Love to hear from anyone here who has found a way to keep the love for these headphones at an all time high. 😍

You shouldn't make such assumptions. The Z7MK2 is still listed on the Sony USA website and Sony's main Japanese website. The UK website is also missing recent products such as the MDR-MV1 open back headphone.

It's doubtful Sony would discontinue a product without there being any news on a replacement. In fact they are selling two generations of their popular Bluetooth 1000X headphones, demonstrating that they're willing to allow the life cycles of product generations to overlap each other.

I have to admit your speculation was correct about the Z7M2 being discontinued. Apologies for my rudeness.

It's strange that Sony would discontinue a premium product without having a new product ready to launch.

On Sony's USA consumer electronics website the Z1R is now discounted:

Maybe the successor models are coming.

Got some new pads on this original Z7. I still love it.
When EQ’d it is pretty awesome even still in 2024.

But apparently only through their Japanese Sony portal. The Z7M2 is listed on the US and DE portals but not available for sale. The UK portal does not even list the Z7M2.

Gotcha. That seems to be the case. I didn't notice that there was no add to cart option. I wonder if this will make the Z7MK2 a little more expensive on the resale market?

I find that generally, these headphones do not hold their value that well, or they historically haven't anyway.

have this in a 4.4 balanced and satisfied enough for reordering in a 1/4". there is a Z7 Z1r specific listing with screw-ins, but i have multiple headphones on the compatibility list for these and would rather they yank out in a crisis. mine didnt come marked right and left fwiw but you can tell by which way the logo faces. they are a bit more supple than periapt.
havent owned z7 for a few years now and currently awaiting a new set from japan. i recall a strongly positive experience with this model esp for the price. will see if my memory serves me right.
