I’m pretty happy with Z5 using the MUC-M12NB1 cable and Sony Triple Comfort Tips. Love them for home use.
That’s what I use and I use them at home as an alternative to the Z1R when it’s too hot for full lize

That’s so true, how when out and about town the noise ambience degradeds sound quality. But again, that’s why many Z5 users only use them at home. It will be interesting if Sony address this issue upon a Z5MK2 release.
I have a friend that is looking for a good IEM and he liked my Z5, but doesn't want to spend over a thousand on a desktop setup (he doesn't need it to be portable as he listens to music at home off of a macbook pro. He flipped out when I told him how much my hugo 2 cost. Any thoughts? I haven't heard these items, but have heard they are good, but I'm not sure if they would play well with the z5. The schiit mimby/modi/eitr stack, ifi micro idsd black label, chord mojo and rme adi 2 dac (I want one of these for myself too) are I think might be good for him. What do you guys like for a home setup for under a grand? He's looking to spend at least 700 to a thousand dollars so that he can use it with other iems and headphones down the road but for now he wants to start off slowly with a good IEM.
PHA-2A Works perfectly with the Z5 but for $70 more, you can get a ZX300 which is portable but will act as a desktop DAC/AMP while connected to a PC.
Even with the PHA-2A or ZX300............ he’s going to need a 4.4mm to MMCX cable as the Z5 is only going to come with 3.5mm X3.5mm X2 balanced cable and a 3.5mm single ended cable.
Nope no balanced cables are given, you must purchse them separately, I had to do this
If the PHA3 was purchased the Z5 does come with 3.5mm/3.5mm X2 balanced connections and everything would work, but many don’t like the stock Z5 cable due to how it fits.
But the 3.5MM balance cable that came with the Z5 is not that great, You're better off buying a PHA-2A and use the saving to get a 4.4mm Kimber.
