Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Thanks. I hope I like the AG Axios. I wouldn't want to return it because without the CU here as well I cannot really hear the differences. I would kind of think the Sony/Kimber is pretty close to the Axios CU. Apparently not so. I wanted to point out something. Kimber say all Axios have "16 conductors". Not true really. They have 16 pairs of FEP sheaths each containing "10" conductors in the true sense of the term. So therefore I would suppose, properly stated they have 160x32AWG "conductors". Honestly that in itself does not translate into any sound regardless. Just setting forth the terminology as I know it. It has no bearing on the sound, the amount of conductors.

Do not buy homemade cables on ebay or amazon made in china. If you must, just get the sony/Kimber. Those homemade Chinese cables who knows what you get. If it is $25 okay try it. Ones for $400 I would not touch that. The sony/Kimber seems vastly overpriced at $250+. Whereas I did not sneeze at the AG Axios being about 4 grand. Indeed like a jeep vs. a Range Rover. You get what you pay for and I know this so I do not bat an eye. It is the only sound of the Z1R I plan to know so I hope I like it. I am pretty flexible. I have equipment with sound signatures all over the place. I just hope the AG does not create some "problem" such as shrill treble. Returning it does nothing because without both at the same time I know none the better. AG is not more money because it is "better". It is simply a more expensive material and harder to work with as well. I wanted to accentuate the treble as the bass is plentiful so I am thinking I shall be happy with my decision. Currently burning in. I will do so for 500 hours. So no comments from me for 3 weeks. However it is already evident these are high end headphones by any means. Opening them I couldn't believe my eyes with Grado's packaging in mind LOL.

I’m loving mine with the Axios AU, would never be able to stretch to the AG

Wrong about the specific type, but it's pretty sure these coverings with rigid and smooth surface will not attenuate the sound and become the cause of the microphonics. Sadly this also means they have better performance in the sound than PVC or PET. There are always trade offs.

Axios uses teflon and that leads to microphonics

Been using Kimber Kable since 1978. I’ve never found any issues with microphonics with Kimber. Been selling & using Kimber Axios since it began. I’ve never found or so much as heard of anyone report an Axios cable with microphonics, I know hundreds of Axios users.

Tell us how Axios using teflon will lead to microphonics.

There is fairly strong microphonics with the Axios AU but since I only use them totally stationary it doesn’t matter

I’ve not experienced that. Of course I’m not saying it doesn’t. When you use the cable ....unplugged from the Amp is that when you hear it most? If so, it’s mechanical. If it is as a result of voltage variables that is electronic. There are always trade-offs in manufacturing wire. Some form of issue is within all cables depending on the way and materials used in how they are made. Using teflon is not a bad thing and isn’t a negative impact typically

Thanks for the reminder, I guess the word microphonics is also misused here. I mean that kind of effect when you scratch on the wire or it sweep along your clothes you will hear the sound, and that is caused by, as I mentioned above, the rigid and smooth surface of the covering material. It is not microphonics - but something different.

Oh it’s entirely mechanical, that’s why it doesn’t matter when I use stationay
