I consider myself fairly proficient and make my living as a computer programmer, but I must admit defeat as to creating a backup of my device on my Windows pc.

As far as I can make out I first need to download and install Live DVD (this apparently is an iso image of something, I don't know what), then Python and Git from somewhere, then USB DK and WinFsp.

I think based on that level of complexity I'll give trying wampy a miss.

Backup is not necessary, you can skip it. It's nice to have it just in case, but Wampy installation procedure is stable.

There is an alternative to that kind of backup, which can be made to be more automated, and it doesn't require Python.

I may look at it this week.

Do I understand it correctly that there is only the one .exe and that it will work with all the different players or is there a seperate exe for each device like for WalkmanOne ?

The emergency download mode is universal, so there should be only one executable of the tool.

Got wampy installed on my ZX300 and that is pretty cool.

A few minor issues though.

In the Misc tab the option to select Show time is greyed out and not avaliable.

When I turn the screen off with wampy active the only way to get back into the gui is to slide the hold button down (as when I press the power button to turn the screen back on the gui displays the stock player and the message that hold is on) and then up again.

I assume that I just install new versions of wampy "on top", no need to first uninstall wampy ?

You are on Walkman One, which doesn't have UI space for clock (also mentioned in USAGE.md)

>The only way to get back into the gui
There is a huge chance of race condition on turning display on; native application also restores itself and that usually crashes the device.

Correct, this is mentioned in README.md.

emergency download mode
MediaTek Boot ROM mode. Please use official name to avoid divergence of terminology, I've seen countless posts with "SonyOS" term which is just a regular Linux system.

I think it's also called Emergency Download, or EDL.
