Does that line out adapter work well?
it doesnt work with cfw, my mistake, its not an l27 cable.
That's weird - my A55 has no issues recognizing the Fiio L27 cable running the mr walkman firmware. On the A35 with mrwalkman fw the cable doesn't work, though.

ETA - it could be also a Fiio thing. I connect to the Fiio Q1mk2, but it's possible that non-Fiio DACs won't work. No idea why.
i forgot the exact name for the cable shown in my pic, its not an l27. my mistake.

MAN! Is it ever difficult to catch up (and stay current) with all the posts all of you have amassed here. I come in here to read and try to get caught up with y'all and comprehend where these topics have been and where they are going--very difficult for someone as late to dinner as I am. But I digress...

Anyway, somehow I stumbled upon this phrase, "DMP-WM1 FEv2" and it's like "SQUIRREL!!" and I'm off on yet another tangent.

This looked to me to be something that is a step beyond where my WM1A is currently at, which is :Walkman One (WM1Z). So I searched and found this file: "StockRevert_DMP_WM1_MK1_MK2_FE_FEv2_ProjectZ". I downloaded it and extracted the files and found a series of files named "StockRevert_(DMP-WM1_FE)" and four more with similar names like "StockRevert_(DMP-WM1... ) for FEv2, et. al.

So, now my question is: do I run the "StockRevert..." file I want and it removes the current Walkman One and installs the new one? Can it really be that easy? If not, please direct me to the post(s) where I can follow the recipe to get to the nirvana that DMP-WM1_FEv2 is purported to be. Thank you in advance...

These files are used to revert from older custom fw versions to stock fw in preparation for installing WalkmanOne or a different older custom fw.

WalkmanOne is the newest custom fw while the one you mention is an older version that is no longer available on MrWalkman’s web site. As I recall it is now the BRIGHT signature of WalkmanOne

Thank you nc8000. This is good news! Your reply supports and confirms what and where I thought I was prior to my excursion in my latest post above.

The firmware installed in my WM1A is from a file with this name: ( Walkman_One_WM1_(21_09) ); which was extracted from the file downloaded from this link: ( Walkman One - 4 sound signatures in one package ) at the top of MrWalkman's front page. So, I believe I'm good to go.

I have a question does the battery life gets affected if I switch to normal mode versus plus v2?

Plus V2 seems to increase battery life for me

I see. I have no way of knowing if V2 affect the battery life because when I bought the unit used, it was with the latest WalkmanOne fw. Current experience, my wm1a has quite a long battery life. I use the unit less than 1 hour per day and I charge maybe once a month when 1 bar remains. Also I don't use my wm1a everyday.

I have similar usage patterns (sans the Plus V2) and my unit is an early one; manufactured 2016-10. I've never put a stopwatch or clock to my battery life, but I have never run out of power.

My recent usage has changed with the install of Walkman One--listening with over-the-ear headphones (vs my SE846 IEMs) and using Balanced output and High Gain. I continue to believe that the WM1A's battery life is one of its strongest points--in my usage patterns anyway.

In the end I had decided to steer clear of buying a set of MDR-MV1's despite how good they seem and instead stuck with my original plan of buying a set of ATH-R70x's over the HD600 or Sundara, these 3 seem to be just picking your poison of a different flavor. I found a set for sale for extremely cheap in new condition down at a flat $200 from its $350-400 full price tag which I was also able to find a good amplifier to pair with from the money I saved and settled on a Fiio K7 also on sale, No regrets after switching out cables, it fully transformed the sound of the setup from great to fantastic.

The reason I didn't go with the MDR-MV1 is because I found its response (based on peaks relative to semblance I typically have issues with) to be too similar to my Moondrop Katos, in that is boosted in bass and treble, which I myself still have wanted to dial back because I want a more mid focused headphone which is exactly that the R70x is. It must be my ear shape or size because I seem to be prone to semblance issues and is the main reason I don't use some headphones/IEMs and just didn't want to take the risk with a repeat of my moondrops.. Dynamically the R70 doesn't have the extended treble like the HD600, but what it just has is silky smooth mids of a different flavor, excellent imaging, with about par sound stage, and a better low bass response. Although I could just be lucky because I am in he group of people that don't have fitment issues, my ears don't even touch the cups because they are so small as a result I don't get as much of a one dimensional sound as others claim to have experienced.

Switching cables has also surprisingly helped after getting a good quality 4.4 balanced cable to run with the headphones. The new cable requires significantly less power from the amp to reach loud volumes, for whatever reason almost double the output of the 6.35->3.5 jack (from factory). The treble and general dynamics also sound far extended so who knows what thats about. This is by far the biggest impact Ive had a cable make in terms of sound. whereas the factory cable sounded somewhat dull, warm.

Now here's the main reason I'm writing this post. This setup sounds full on spectacular... off of desktop. All frequencies are accounted for, everything sounds balanced and as it should, its so good I just don't even need to question it. Every song, Every genre sounds like I'm hearing it for the first time and rediscovering music. This is the all-purpose headphone I was looking for. This is the home setup I wanted, but it isn't as pretty for the Walkman. I mistakenly found my desktop setup despite purchasing for the WM1 and im definitely not sending either of them back.

It isn't a loudness problem. It gets even louder than my desktop does, but across every tuning, every region, no matter how much power it is given, some frequencies just feel not well represented, it loses some of that choppiness and clearness that was present on the desktop and just like that fullness and warmth is lacking. It still sounds very good, it just isn't quite on the same plane.

So my question is.. What are the effects of the NP Audio mod as far as this? Can it clear everything up and make output cleaner like it sounds on the desktop? Or would this be caused by a lack of power under some frequencies due to impedance shooting up to some staggeringly high numbers (nearly 1000 ohms! at some point despite its 470 ohm rating) that the Walkman just cannot deal with?

Well, in my humble opinion, I do think that you get a sound/capability closer to the desktop set-up. The mod def. makes the Walkman deliver more (and it's very notable). And just before your question, you describe the lack of fullness & warmth with WM1 (on Walkman ONE) and that's my problem too (with the ONE). I keep hoping for a Walkman MAX, that doesn't care about battery! But the top-question for you is: Do you get the same experience of the modding? I can only recommend the NPAudio mod!

I haven't heard a lack of fullness & warmth with WM1 (on Walkman ONE). This is using Region J3, Plus v2 and 1Z tuning which I also use on my 1Z. To me comparing the 2 units the 1A has more bass impact than the 1Z which has better bass details but without the fullness.

I know & TOTALLY agree, but the "cleanness" of the bass in Walkman ONE take some of the fun out for me! I will choose "live-warmth" over studio-clean any day. Been working with P.A./Live sound for 30+ years, so it's hard to let go of that! :) But, I will go back again again again to try. The good thing thing about this is, that every time I go back to the ONE, I get a little closer to liking it! So my P.A.ears/mind are getting used to this! One day I'll get around to it! I know! :)
