2 questions to you cfw connoisseurs

1, i opened the settings.txt and i only see j in the regions , does this mean i have the earlier walkmanone fw installed (and not the latest with J2 and J3) ?

2, i am currently on mX3 region and wanna try the J , all i have to do is change mx3 to J in the settings txt , remove mass storage and i am good ?

do i need to also restart the wm1a or it's done after it reloads the database ?

To answer your questions. In the settings file if it doesn’t mention J3 then you don’t have that special firmware version installed. And to change regions just change MX3 to J. Save the file. Then remove mass storage and restart the device and you’re good to go.

Also, if you have an Android phone, it's quick and easy to tether your WM to the phone, change region in a text editor, reboot and go. I haven't connected my WM1Z to a computer in years.

It could just be an old settings.txt file from prior to the Walkman One beta with J1 J2 and J3, try deleting the settings.txt. Restart your WM1A, a new one will be created. See if it mentions J1 J2 J3 then.

The settings.txt file is created every time a firmware is installed. Only once and never changes unless someone changes perimeters in there. Only the log file gets overwritten every time the player restarts.

They do as standard unless someone asks for something different I guess. Does it have the gold GUI ? like on thier website.

Yes the current mod comes with the J3 version, I tried it on @gerelmx1986 unit as I brought it back from UK to EU and did burn in for him while he was on holliday with his parents and I wanted to have identical settings on his and mine for comparison

I believe so, I think the gold GUI came at the same time as V5 came out but maybe that was before Walkman One beta if it was an early one. Either way you can return back to stock firmware and then install the Walkman One beta, you will just loose the custom gui.

No mine never came with anything special, I have installed the various fw myself, so I don’t have all the gold bling in the gui. My mod is the 2.5 mod and is 4 years old from June 2020 and my ZX300 mod is from June 2022.

But @gerelmx1986 mod from April this year has all the gold

i am a bit confused cause my modded wm1a has all the gold bling in volume knob/battery meter etc but i don't have the J3 region setting available

weird (modded wm1a sounds amazing though i have been hearing it nonstop like a junkie for the last 2 days the hype is REAL)

I don’t know when Steve started using the J3 version. Perhaps the date stamp of the cfw folder on the player can give you an idea when your player was installed

My WM1A after the modification has the gold user interface has the golden DMP-z1 knob on it and all icons are a little bit gold color
