Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Just tried it and have been listening to different songs mostly 24/96 flac and I think you solved my problem. Very detailed and not so bright, will try on my headphones when I get home. Thank you so much.
Glad you like it. I find that the WM1Z signature is the most balanced of all, Nothing is short and nothing is too much. It’s improves the stock sound significantly and scales very well depending on the headphones or iems that you use with it. It’s the sweet spot for me.

Sounds fantastic so far!
Man! My Walkman doesn't look anything like that. I don't remember ever seeing that model or I would have had one.

I do have 3 XMMS Walkman skins that will work on Audacious and sometime use them in my screenshots.

It may just be some firmware that you installed wrong. But I mean I have made every mistake in the book as far as doing it wrong and there is always a way back home. If worse comes to worse you can probably take it to a Sony service center and they can bring it back to stock? So you have totally reset the player both soft reset and a factory reset? I mean you could try and deplete the battery to zero with attempting to restart it a bunch of times, but really that should not help. What I would do is 1st keep trying to put different MrWalkman firmwares in or try to take them out. Also try turning off the player and rebooting it while attempting to put MrWalkman firmware in. I have basically done it all as far as making mistakes and much of the time just turning the player off and on works? I have put almost every revision of the firmware in both players....both the 1A and 1Z.

Can you attempt to put Sony firmware 2.0 in? Someone must have a copy of old 2.0 around which you could try? Often Sony makes it hard to find anything other than the latest firmware.

To tell you the truth it sounds like a database card issue? You should take out your card for the time being, and concentrate on internal memory.
A stuck button could cause strange unpredictable behavior. Make sure it is not in a case, nothing pressing on buttons. Is there a screen protector? These can affect the touch interface.
Further troubleshooting, simplify down to the most basic configuration to reduce the possible factors.
- remove all non essentials, like microSD card.
- download fresh copies of the stock FW. Download from another PC. Make sure you don't have a corrupt copy of FW.
- Reload stock FW multiple times. This should have no theoretical effect, but there are observations that this restored the original SQ. You are in a state where grasping at straws is allowed.
- try another cable
- try a Format System Storage (backup first)
- Use only the internal memory. Copy a few new songs onto the internal memory, and observe. Get it back to as basic a configuration as possible, and see if the problem is still present.

So some things to try.

Edit: Older Stock FW locations.

Thank you to all who replied with possible fixes! So since I posted here, I have been keeping my player off, turning it on to play some music and turning it right back off when I was done. Yesterday I turned it on and left it on sleep mode for the entire day and I noticed that I haven't gotten any glitches with random playback, volume changing etc. since I've left it on. It appears that constantly turning the player off and on might have done the trick. Just to note, I have kept my player on stock 3.02. Perhaps it's safe once more to use a custom firmware? Once again, I appreciate all the suggestions and help you guys provided! I would hate to think that my $1200 DAP (which is now out of warranty after more than a year) would require possibly paid repair service from Sony.

Ok well I'm back to the drawing board, just a couple of minutes ago I found my WM1A playing a random song while it was in sleep mode and the lock switch enabled. Going to try removing the SD and installing firmware 2.0 and see what happens:cry:

NW-A35-modded.jpg

Kudo to @MrWalkman for this terrific mod! I just modded my NW-A35 and suddenly it sounds cleaner and fuller. It can also be used as a USB DAC now which can be very helpful. This is amazing thank you so much.

Fellow enthusiasts, greetings! This is most likely off kilter, I just checked my Z1 and its running Project Z (Classic) Haven't a clue when I installed that, let's just say pandemic affected us all differently. If someone could kindly share how I can find and install the latest Mr WK Z1's, it would be appreciated and then some more...

Greetings, just make sure that you use the original package 'stock revert' before going ahead with any recent firmware release to avoid complications.

It’s in Settings, Device settings (the 3rd option), Language settings (the 3rd last option)

I don't find that
Are you on J region ?
If you are then the Language option is not available and you will have to change region before you can change language (the Language option should be after Parametres Horloge which is Clock Settings). To change region you will need the Rockbox tool
