Actually my understanding is that you must do the correct revert first to get the hw region/model set correct. If not the stock fw installation will fail.
Indeed. That why I said ideally the stock revert that came with the custom firmware package should be run first either way. But I have tried going straight to stock from some of that earlier firmwares and it installed correctly. Maybe pre midnight/Dawn perhaps.
You should always use the included Stock Revert file with @MrWalkman firmware as there are other features such as the low battery display on start-up that need to be removed to revert to stock Sony firmware.

I also think so - the model the unit reports is different than the "real" model (just run tue scsitool to check) the stockrevert executable resets that, too.
Are older versions of the custom firmwares hosted somewhere? I'm expecting delivery of my new WM1A by the end of this week, so haven't been playing in this pool before now. I will follow the consensus advice to stick with stock initially, but am planning ahead.
I ran StockRevert_DMP-WM1_FE.exe without any issue. The wm1a restarted.
However, I got “Connect target device to a computer with a USB cable” popup when I ran StockRevert Ext. Tuning. What is the problem?

There are 2 stock reverts that have to be run in the correct order and they have to be the ones that came together with whatever fw and tuning is installed on the player

According the the instruction for Dawn and Midnight (I have old FE but I think it is the same) I ran the StockRevert for FE first which worked, and the StockRevert Ext Tuning which is in the same Zip file, and I get this issue for the later one.

If not concerned about hours run the factory reset from the player as that will clear the problem. For CFW you must explicitly follow the instruction's as prescribed by the Dev to avoid such issue.
Still using / highly enjoying the Midnight Plus w/ J region. Running the new Dunu EST 112, the level of detail retrieval is really something to be heard... The EST 112 is quite a special IEM btw... recommend it highly. The level of sound quality is well beyond the retail price.
