Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Just reporting here on the A50R firmware, fantastic sound. I have been playing with the 10 band equalizer with good results. I generally do not like to eq but with my Sony Wh1000mx3 in cable connection I need to tame the overcooked bass and now I can do it really well with the nwa-55L with the firmware. I really feels like a different player. In this case, these 🎧 really benefit enormously from eq.
Also been playing some DSD files and the sound is excellent.

Ah yes. Simply bliss. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Just when you thought it can’t get better, Stay tuned!

Wow so soon? any ETA??

Should be soon hopefully.
How are you finding the new firmware's upgraded 3.5mm output for your K5 Pro?
I see there is a K9(K7) coming out.

I hate these new firmwares, as it makes the current walkmans even better - thus giving excuses to Sony to continue sitting back idly and waiting another four years to release WM1 successors!
:triportsad:
Doesn’t mean you can’t buy one. They are far ahead of their time and I’m lucky to experience this as I’m sure others agree

I notice immediately the difference direct off the 3.5mm port which is very significant. The DSD track comes alive and much more dynamics than before. Through the K5 Pro there is a difference as well but not as significant as direct. Maybe the internal amplification circuitry of the K5 Pro is already very good. However with the K5 Pro now I notice that bass is much better defined overall and bass lines can be heard so vividly. Try listening to Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson on DSD. The bass part is just so good like listening to this song for the first time. It’s immense and enjoyable.

yeah K7/9 is a full balanced amp with a different target market and will never replace the K5 Pro. Ever. K5 Pro is IMO the best FiiO product to date. It’s that good and at the selling price it’s really unbelievable.

I don't think a company like Sony would rely on custom firmware when taking decisions of releasing another device or not.

"- Hmm, should we release an improved WM1 player?
- We could, but it seems they now have custom firmware available, and the WM1 already sounds better."

That doesn't sound right :)
