If WM1 Walkmans had a 2nd slot...
Yes that would have been great but very few players have

If WM1 Walkmans had a 2nd slot...
walkman sex
Just join two Walkmans together and you do. It works in DAC mode, the top Walkman reads the card in the bottom Walkman as well as the memory.
The regular Walkman cable always goes to the DAC receiver then it works.
Haha great news.Yea that gap is so damn close that I can hardly tell a difference. But when I hear it vs the 1A in stock, there is definitely a jump. It is AMAZING how much the gap has closed from the the 1Z to the DMP-Z1!! WOW!!

Ok, so your liking the synergy of the signature (FR) of your tunnings, over the technicalities of DMP firmy correct?Of course it lacks in some technicalities compared to what MrWalkman has been establishing since
Ok so you place holography and detailing overall less important than your signature sound, for synergy with what are you using?Still it was great to hear the super-holographic and composed signature from this new DMP-WM1 mod,
Me too. It is a bit agressive/lively, being more forward and busy and wide.interesting that you perceived Solis as rather forced and harsh
When the new Firmware drops it will be anyone's guess until they try.Whats closest? 1z or 1a with dmp fw to the real Dmp-z1?
I actually preferred this IEM over the Odin, Mest, and a few other $3k IEMs I was fortunate to try. Had the largest soundstage with also treble air ..Woot woot! My Elysium's thank you! Enjoy some suds, on me!

THIS! /\ /\ /\He's free to take the modded firmware and try creating his own tuning mods.
That is easy..This would be the dream to have happen. To somehow amplify the detail and add power making in a sense a “Ghetto DMP-Z1”![]()
this new DMP-Z1 emulation is different. To me it’s too smooth in the 1A, yet closest to heaven in the 1Z. Absolutely historic in the 1Z and could be said to be better than the TA with detail retrieval; especially with IEMs
I did a comparison of my DMP moded 1z, to the brand new A&K model SE200, which uses TWO different dacs in one unit...Disappointingly not all brands are available with similar favourable pricing an Astell&Kern A&Ultima SP2000 for instance is exceeding an eye watering $4K
That's great news as I also agree the First DMP Firmware made the 1z a bit noticably better, and they were no longer on equal footing. So it's great to hear that the next firmware drop will boost the 1a yet again..To me MK2 seems specific to the 1A? I haven’t tried it with the 1Z yet. But while our new DMP-Z1 firmware modifications to emulate the player inside the 1A/1Z were an amazing revelation in detail...........to me the 1Z took most of the benefits. This time around though the tables have been turned. It’s the best the 1A has EVER sounded....EVER!
You mean breaking thru layers of the firmament?!Mr WAlkman does amazing job. Just when we thought 1A/Z has reached the limit, the stratosphere keeps being broken
May I ask what unit are you using for copying to digital? On analogue tape direct to DSD with no edit, it sounds the best, every thing feel more analogue
Next hardware mod??If WM1 Walkmans had a 2nd slot...
Haha great news.
your liking the synergy of the signature (FR) then, correct?
Ok so you place holography and detailing overall less important than your signature sound, for synergy with what are you using?
I am not discounting your observations which obviously working for you, just trying to guage and understand differences.
I find that IEMs can be very dependent on the signature more so than overall realism.
My guess is that your using IEMs and very few have soundstaging as large as headphones.
Me too. It is a bit agressive/lively, being more forward and busy and wide.
I use a test track of jazz piano with percussion for instrument placement and Tonality, and most other tunnings gave me proper piano image placement.
Solis I posted in past, was actually my fav, being so lively and exciting, untill the new firmwares (++) came, but now this DMP is on a whole other level with detailing and holography.
When the new Firmware drops it will be anyone's guess until they try.
I actually preferred this IEM over the Odin, Mest, and a few other $3k IEMs I was fortunate to try. Had the largest soundstage with also treble air ..
Excellent choice!

Please don't make users resort to old stock Firmwares as the base of new tunnings..
That is easy..
Just add a desktop tube amp to your DAP as source..
Instant amazin-b@llz ginormous summit-fi
sound!
With right tube amp you should easily surpass a DMP unit..
I too, found with the DMP-Z1 Firmware (not the upcoming one), that was placed on BOTH units (1a&1z) that the 1z had more holography and a touch more organic sound...
So either something is still going on inside the players,
OR the difference can be attributed to hardware,
OR both?
I did a comparison of my DMP moded 1z, to the brand new A&K model SE200, which uses TWO different dacs in one unit...
The Lesabre side (on right outputs) was not anything special. It was very nice and clear, and just not really musical.
The left side using the latest AKM was incredibly musical, without having the past versions "velvet" sound.
It was clearly their best achievement in a dap, and same chip used only in their top model.
It is my personal opinion that A&K are all overpriced, and only either the top model, or this new SE200 model are worth buying, if you have the moneyto burn.
Otherwise I would not bother. Only for a scenario which you need streaming services like Tidal, bit then I would look into the Sony 507 instead.
I consider the SE200 playing out the left AKM side to be Worthy opponent to the 1z.
The 1z still excells in holography depth OVER it, while the SE200 has a wider stage than this DMP moded 1z unit!
It was also extremely clear and a bit more powerful.
The reasons I would stay with the Sony is that I still prefer the Sony sound (a preference) over the A&K, although the A&K is $1800.
I seriously doubt it would ever beat the Sony in depth of stage, which is very important to me. But the unit was incredibly clear and musical.
ONLy on the left side. The right side, to me was an UTTER waste of time..
Why they can't tell the difference is beyond me.
I am thinking that side is for IEMs that are very forward, as it was laid back..
That's great news as I also agree the First DMP Firmware made the 1z a bit noticably better, and they were no longer on equal footing.
You mean breaking thru layers of the firmament?!
May I ask what unit are you using for copying to digital?
I am thinking about this unit:
To use from my turntable to computer..
Next hardware mod??

Admittedly I'm planning on auditioning a A&K SE200 which is closing on $2K locally, that said I'll be very impressed if the SE200 is significantly better sonically than the base SR25 kind of expect more of the same, in a very small dose LOL
i am not using anything, I said to cause the latest DGG SACD remaster of their analogue tape by japanese engineers sound da bestHaha great news.

I find that IEMs can be more sensitive to the signature (FR). More so, than overall beminfits of increased realism(DMP).
So my guess is that you may be using IEMs, and very few have soundstaging as large as headphones.

I was upgrading these two amps with new caps...
Rediculous ear-gasm summit-fi sound.

DMP-Z1MK2 should probably improve the 1Z as well as the 1A? I’m funny in that I had such a great experience with DMP-Z1MK1 with the 1Z; I think it’s perfect. But DMP-Z1MK2 is so fun (with the 1A) that it’s all I use and have put the 1Z away.........and if you have both players and have DMP-Z1MK1 (on a 1Z) like you do you can “know” what style of statement this is! That maybe the humble 1A with DMP-Z1MK2 is beyond subjectivity! It’s fabulous!
There will always be those questions about why the players react so different. It has always seemed that one software was always better on one than the other. So in many ways I do still wonder if DMP-Z1MK2 could be THAT new firmware which plays exceptionally well on both. But having both MK2 and MK1, we are set no matter what.
This is exciting stuff as the 1A has never ever been this good. I’ve been listening to it for days. Though I’m not sure I can figure out if it’s as well rounded as DMP-Z1MK1 is on the 1Z? That system can play any genre. But I ended going down a two day rabbit hole as the 1A has such a new and provocative bass that I just started to listen to electronic music.........
I’m with you in calling the DMP-Z1 MK Series “sound holograms” haha. That’s the greatest word as it’s giant sound imaging outside your head!
And the bigger the soundstage is with the IEM anyways seems to be added to exponentially?????????????????
Is the DMP-Z1MK2 for 1A only or for both 1A and 1Z?
