Sony NW-ZX300

Oh! I assumed we were talking about 4.4mm headphones into an XLR-4 headphone jack - I wouldn't hook the ZX300 up to an amp via the headphone out since it's not a line-out (it may sound okay but it's not a clean signal meant for amps)...

Yup.

Yeah, dual would just be two 3-pin cables bonded together...

Assuming you have done this already, what DAC/DAC's have you used?

I was looking at buying the OTG cable and a Cambridge DAC MagicPlus, but a user on that thread said that MagicPlus would not recognize his Sony DAP's.

Could you mention you used? I want to get a balanced DAC.

Thanks.

Shane D

PS: you were correct on the cable. The hum was unbearable.

Apparently that one doesn't work. Or it doesn't work with the Sony DAP to Chord Mojo. If you look on the FAQ pages, (meaning the first few pages) of the Official Mojo thread, it's there.

That cable works, and I know because I have one. £40 bucks, but I still love it. I think the ZX300 manual actually mentions that cable, or maybe not. However if you search for Sony OTG cable, you will soon enough find that cable.

Can you tell me which DAC's you have used this with? I was looking at buying a Cambridge DAC MagicPlus, but was told it won't recognize the Sony's.

I want to buy a balanced DAC.

Thanks!

I couldn't find high gain option on this ZX300, is there anyone got the same problem :frowning2:
Perhaps you're running the EU version of the OS?

Hi, is there any way I can check it? I have tried to download other firmware and re install but it's still the same.

Yep. Looks like you have the EU settings. Mine was like that. Get rockbox’s NW- destination tool... and a PC. You can check it first, and then change the destination to whatever you want.

Once it’s done, you’ll have high gain there, but the sound will be much more powerful anyway... and better battery life too!

Not sure what you are asking me. If you get the cable I showed you, it will work with Sony and Mojo. I have used it with Mojo and Hugo 2. (I have no idea what DACs the ZX300 and the L27 cable would work with. All I know is it doesn't work with ZX300 and Chord DACs.)

There's no real point to me, for buying a balanced DAC, if you have a Mojo. Chord DACs are not balanced on the outputs, because they don't have the issue that being balanced addresses.

The only reason to look at another DAC would be for a static DAC, since Mojo works by battery. The choice is yours then.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was asking what DAC's you had used with your DAP via the OTG cable?

Quick question before I buy a ZX300: does anyone use MusicBee to sync their music to the player? I've used it for years with all of my DAPs and want to make sure it won't be an issue with this one. Cheers!

Anyone in the UK looking for IEM to pair with ZX300, I can recommend the AKG N40. (Although a higher end headphone might be more what someone is looking for.) The reason why I say this now is because AKG N40 is currently on sale with Richer Sounds for about 60% off. They are £350 R.R.P., and now on sale for £150. Impossible to resist at that price. I bought a second pair anyway because I wanted some back up for when I lose or break mine. Plus I can actually use two pairs.

However given the sound quality, £150 is an unfettered bargain. I have loved mine since day one. Even when on my £50 iPod Shuffle, they were nothing short of brilliant. On the ZX300 they are sublime.

Is it just me or is plugging in a 4.4mm jack one of the most satisfying feelings in this hobby?

The stiffness of the jack quite surprised me when I first plugged my MDR-1As into them. I think both jacks starting to loosen though, so the clicks aren't as satisfying as they were a month ago

Is there any way to get the Sony remote RMT NWS20 to work with an Android phone?
