Sony NW-ZX300

Just what I wanted to hear, the ifi was great but, sometimes almost too cold, that's what drew me over to the wm1a actually, I was looking for a dap that could get me sound quality to match the ifi but an all in one device and something warmer. I liked the ifi, but from all I've read I think I'll enjoy the zx300 more.
I use both on a daily basis and you just cant go wrong with the zx300

I used to have the zx100 - Its was ok, software was good etc, but I found the sound a bit boring. It also seemed really underpowered, despite being the international version with no stupid volume cap. Is the Zx300 worth a go now I've sold my Zx100? I'm using a Pioneer 30R, how does the Zx300 compare?

Could anyone tell me about the dalay of USB DAC mode on ZX300? Is it fixed (or make it negligible) by latest firmware? Or is there settings to make it ok?
The delay is there on firmware 1.1... It's roughly 1s long, not noticeable at all when you're streaming/listening to music. It's just a case of hitting play and then it starts a second or so later.

One interesting thing is that any system sound changes you make, for instance volume changes, also take 1s to take effect, but if you do them on the ZX300 themselves, it is instant.

If you're watching video, things like Youtube and Netflix are pretty bad to watch, but anything through VLC you can tweak the playback to match the audio and video so that's fine.

Hope this helps anyone else who was wondering about the DAC delay.

Can anybody point me in the direction of a good 4.4mm balanced cable with mmcx connections sourced from the uk....there's one on Amazon UK but unsure of quality
Your options are severely limited... MMCX headphones or earphones?

In the UK we don't seem to have many options for balanced MMCX cables. It also doesn't help that the 4.4mm standard is very new. The Fiio cable from amazon looks good, but you'll need a good adapter, and most certainly a multimeter to check the connections because if it's off you can short the ZX300, which would be very painful.

I ordered a cable from Surf Cables in the US, all in with delivery less than £100 - when it arrives I'll probably review it, but otherwise you could explore the avenue of buying the Fiio cable, cutting it, and re-terminating it in a 4.4mm cable - that'd be the cheapest option but with a bit of hassle attached.

Not sure what you mean? Its worked perfectly as a DAC from day one. I use as a DAC with PC, Android/iPhone.

He means that when you use the ZX300 as a DAC there is a short delay between hitting play and the audio beginning, due to the processing of the ZX300

I picked up a Sony 4.4mm Kimber cable off the forums for £100 delivered (normally ~£170 new). Came from US to UK. Prior to that I was using the Fiio 2.5mm balanced with adapter from Penon Audio and worked fine. I now keep my SE846's and HD660S with the 4.4mm and use a 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter if connecting direct to other devices.

Ah.... you mean for video sync? I only use purely for music. Still have my Dragonfly Red which is flawless used with a PC (for music or video).

I only use DAC mode for streaming Tidal from phone. Still use DFR with Tidal PC.
