Sony MDR xb1000? NEw? OMG

I'm still not impressed with the XB1000 at all.

Hoping the bass increases with burn in or something, because the bass lacks presence compared to the XB700.

@sunnystefan - If you like the bass of your D1100 you will probably be disappointed by the XB1000. I've been switching between the D1100, XB1000 and XB700 and the bass of the XB1000 is just not satisfying to me in comparison.

It's not going to happen.  The strength of the XB1000 is in low end detail retrieval as I've mentioned a few times.  I think it is misleading calling them XB's. I think there is a lot of hype around these leading to false expectations.  The XB1000 has what I would consider more 'audiophile' bass but the rest of the spectrum doesn't match.

I currently have the Denon AH-1100 headphones, but am looking for an upgrade, without any sacrifice in bass, if not more. Any good headphones for me considering the XB1000 don't seem to live up to the hype?

That is a good assessment. It sort of makes the XB1000 redundant for me though. If I want quality w/bass I go to the D7000 or Pro900, if I want fun bass-heady-ness I would pick the XB700/D1100 over it.

So the XB1000 has quality bass without the muscle of its siblings, and it lacks 'audiophile' mids/treble? Such a pity. I was wondering whether hype had slithered into the reviews/impressions for these phones. Thank you for your input, Anaxilus.

LOL, you are comparing a $900 pair of headphones to the XB1000.

I'm not really, I'm just not sure what the purpose of the XB1000 is. For me, the XB700 does a better job at being a fun basshead can and that is less than half the price of it. (I paid £70 for XB700 and £180 for XB1000)

I'd be interested to see your comparisons with the D2000 as they are in a similar price bracket (at least with UK prices). I hope you enjoy it, because I really wanted to, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Just to stress, I'm not trying to deter people from trying the XB1000 or "hate" on it. Just because I dislike it's presentation it doesn't mean you will.

I don't think you are hating, you just gave your opinion.

I love my D2K's but the XB1000s just seem like a fun pair of cans when I get into my Detroit Techno zone.

Since when did quality = price?

I would rather word it, satisfaction != price. My XB500 satisfies me more than 3.5x higher priced DT770 Pro. Sometimes $300 vs $900 could make a fair fight in case the $300 sounds more like he/she WANT it to sound like, doesn't have to be a "quality" thing. I sure wouldn't drop $1000 on a headphone without hearing it first or at least knowing for sure it has the sound you want.

That's even more true because satisfaction does not have to track quality and quality does not have track price.
