Like Croozer I'm not sure I understand what you mean simbeane?

I burnt my XB1000s in for a couple of days with bass heavy music combined with the bass boost of my arrow amp in a desperate attempt to magically get more bass out of them, but nothing seemed to change!

Perhaps some photoshop wizard can 'shop a pair of XB1000s onto an elephant for the lulz.

Holy moly, those earcups look like the size of the AKG 701's! Talk about mushroom caps, who would wear those things in public? Even if they are Sony.... they seem like they would get really, really hot judging how plush the pads seem to be. They look like they'd double very well as earmuffs, maybe I should go skiing in a pair!

+ skiing + obstacle = crash. Would be too paralyzed by the bass to turn!

The second these hit the US I'm chucking my HFI-580 and buying these sweet busty babes.

It's certainly not my usual thing but they just look so darn fun....  we're allowed to have fun right?

I've been tempted by the Pro900 one more than one occasion for it's fanatic bass but didn't like the piercing treble, so these things should be more to my liking. Will try them with some electronica...

All right, mine are here.

First impressions: They have a really nice feel to them--they really do feel like a top-tier product.  Also, however big you thing these things are, it's nothing compared with how massively HUGE they are once you actually have them in your hands.  They are really, really, REALLY big.  Comfortable, though.

Initial sonic impressions: These are going to be lots of fun.  Definitely not for precision audio, but they sound a lot better than I feared they would.  The midrange does suffer a bit, mostly from bleed from bass frequencies, and they do sound a bit too closed-in.  Vocals are not bad, though, they just don't sound very real.  That said, they have a nice amount of treble.  They are clear and punchy without being harsh.  Bass wise, they are pretty impressive, even with flat frequency response.  The soundstage is wide, but seems quite flat.

I'll write more of a review once I have a chance to explore them more fully.

I bet these are extremely comfy..... but I do wonder how the bass kick compares to the Ultrasones.

They don't have much bass kick, especially not compared to Ultrasones. The XB1000 is very sub-bass focussed, but even then it's not got as much quantity as you'd think considering the way it looks with those huge pads.

Again, it's early, so everything I say right now is subject to refinement later.

They are less punchy than the 780, though have more quantity.

They aren't that flabby in the low end, though, at least not with a decent amp pushing them.  They sound the closest I've heard to a subwoofer in headphones before, and not a cheap computer subwoofer--a good one placed properly and not turned up too high.
