I'm pretty sure they're out of print now so gl trying to find some. Amazon Japan doesn't have any in stock, I just checked. Try Rakuten or Yahoo Auctions, though you will need a proxy service to order it ig you not in Japan. I suggest Tenso.

I've had these... along with the XB500, XB700.

They were my least fav among the 3 as well, they also measure with higher distortion and lower bass.
If you want head pounding bass get the XB500, If you want some more treble and less kick and sub bass focus get the XB700. The XB1000's just sounded wrong to me.

Guys, I have XB1000 which I bought from Ebay.com several years ago for $230 and now I see they cost lot more because they are discontinued and hard to get.

However, today in a local Sony store in my country I found them for only $204. The salesmen told me they're made in Malaysia but they are authentic as it is an official Sony store. The question is to get them or not until available :)

CLEAR!

Anyway,

I thought I would share how I kept an XB1000's heart beating in a new body. The XB1000 I had was in terrible shape, the cable was totally wrecked, the pads were peeling about as much as they possibly could, and the overall condition of the headphone body itself was 1/10.

So,

I put the drivers in a DT770 Pro.

The MDR-Z7 (which I also own <3 ) has a modified version of the XB1000 drivers, so I made a big port on the wood disks I used as the face of the cups. The ports are 3/4" holes with a fine metal mesh behind them. The sound with the Alcantara pads is very forward and has bass similar to the stock DT770 80 ohm with a tad more sub bass reach into the low Hz. I have a set of XB1000 pads coming to put on them, I hope I can get the sound close to or somewhere in between the Z7 and XB1000.

Pictures!

Now wait a bit :)

I just got my XB1000s back from a storage unit; before your post I've actually considered the Z7s as my new half-portable closed unit. Are you saying the driver is mostly the same? Source please :)

Also do you think it would be much of an upgrade?
