Sony MDR-EX600: Impressions Thread

Both the EX600 and the IE8 have very generous, but rather different soundstaging. The EX600 put you closer to the stage (think 3rd row vs. middle of the hall with the Senns), yet at the same time the Sonys sound a bit wider and airier. I like both :)

Is it just me or do yoi guys also find the ex600 very comfortable despite bulky size?
Is the ex1000 vented (no closed feeling pr suction) like the ex600?

These EX600 are really settling in nicely for me with over 50 hours on them. They sound wonderful straight out of the 3rd (or 4th) generation iPod Nano with plenty of bass. Of course, it's even better connected to a desk amp. I already have it equal to the FX700 in sound quality enjoyment, although I still think the FX700 is an overall better earphone technically. It is my bang-for-the-buck iem at this point.

would the EX600 benefit from an amp? lets say the E11 for example? i've read they're easy to drive anyway.. but just for the SQ alone

also, what are you guys using with your EX600s? i've always been wanting to buy one of the Cowons... hmmm...one of these days

Any phone would benefit from proper amping. It's just the degree of benefit that matters.

My W3 & UM3X did not benefit from the highly regarded RSA P-51 Mustang amp ($375, $440 shipped to Europe) or the NuForce Icon Mobile amp. I even tried 3 different types of LODs and heard no improvement whatsoever.

EX600 significantly benefits from the the E7/E9 combination, so I would imagine the same would hold true with the E11. That's how I mainly listen to the EX600 and my massive music database (approaching 1TB worth of music). But I've also discovered that the EX600 responds well with no amp plugged directly into the iPod Nano (it's either 3rd or 4th generation). I get plenty of bass directly into the nano, but more with the amp and the music is fuller and more 3D-like.

I agree.  I would recommend a transformer output tube amp with low output impedance.

That's quite a step up for the EX600 don't you think?  You could probably buy quite a few EX600s at that price.  Not to mention overkill.

It's OK. In PRC some audiophiles use high-tier RudiStor (well, not all the way up to RP1000) to drive the ER-4B. An ER-4B.

Haha.  I think Spritzer might actually put the RudiStor below the ER4B.

  Probably explains it.

Not for people that already have a tube amp.

You can say the brick people carry around that cost over a 1k is overkill too.  You can def get a tube amp at a small fraction of the cost.
