SONY IER-Z1R

The modded ZX300 has blacker background so I was able delineate and hear into the soundstage better. The improvement also includes more textured bass, and slightly more explosive macro dynamics. Since I have a stock ZX300 in hand, I was able to compare the two players side by side. My modded 1Z had Kimber Kable replaced with silver coated gold wire. This mod yields better soundstage width and depth and makes vocal sound a little sweeter. Just a little more organic presentation. Again, I had the advantage of hearing the mod and stock side by side.

were you using all 4 ears simultaneously? Hahahahaha

Had to! Was using the HD800 though. It gets crazy in my tiny listening room.

Most people probably don't notice what I'd call "volume creep", whereby the volume of a headphone that doesn't sound good initially is slowly increased over time until it sounds good or at least better. I believe this accounts for a majority of "burn in" observations.

Also being that everyone uses different volumes, it’s difficult to truly ascertain what volume requirements are needed. Thus depending on volume levels a whole range of values gets judgement or a passing score.

We all know some DAPs only start to show flaws when demanded upon. In truth some would never need the volume level required to generate power issues.

So my modded ZX300 is my go to player on the go now and a win-win for me.

Who would've thought that the foam filter removal mod worked on the ZX300. :) Seriously though, what part of the ZX300 was modified and how?

I never realized a Left and Right eq display like you have on top of your artwork all these years of owning the 1A.

That was added on to firmware 3.00, if I remember right?

I can see the person fat fingering the 3 and 6 on the number pad when placing the order. But the parts are generally per tip. So it's kind of hard to be fat fingering 6 tips and 12 tips, unless they misinterpreted 6 tips for 3 pairs as 6 pairs hence they gave 12 tips.

They gave me 10 1/2 pairs. I'm not complaining :o2smile::ksc75smile::k701smile:

Where did you buy them from?

Can probably get them at any parts distributor for Sony by giving them the number (part numbers are for single tips so you gotta order 2), I posted the list of parts earlier on:

★ Triple comfort earpiece
4-735-786-11 (SS)
4-591-876-11 (S)
4-735-785-11 (MS)
4-591-875-11 (M)
4-735-784-11 (ML)
4-591-877-11 (L)
* There is no LL size.
★ Hybrid earpiece
4-575-658-71 (SS)
4-575-656-71 (S)
4-743-462-01 (MS)
4-575-655-71 (M)
4-743-463-01 (ML)
4-575-657-71 (L)
4-739-392-41 (LL)

USA/Canada (but also worldwide) is encompass (ship international but only if >$100USD ) while Australia is speedyspares (IER-M9 balanced cables are only $100 AUD so that's a steal imo as USA is $130-140 USD for the Z1R balanced cable). You could also remove dashes to help search websites on google to find local places that stocks spares.
