Hi,
not sure this is the correct thread for this, or if I have to start a new one, but as some of the people here already have a A16, I´m trying it.
I bought the A16 from Smyth Research in 2017. It was short after their kickstarter I think. I paid it back than.
Now until this day I have not received my unit. I got an email in 2022 from James, which was an understandable excuse and he said that it will be 2023 hopefully.

Now I wrote to them a few times after that, and I never got a reply.
First I thought that they went bankruptcy, but seeing here a lot of people using those, I guess that's not true..
Very strange that they refuse to answer my emails.

I used the A8 back in the time, I loved it, but sold it the moment the A16 got announced to get it.

Now, is there a story I should know? are there some people also waiting for it?

I honestly feel scammed by them. crazy that they still have a website and selling those...

Up until now, your options have been to forget the money you already paid, or offer to pay the actual full price(minus what you already paid) and get a unit.

seriously? than its a scam...
so I guess product cost got way bigger than expected? but if so, they should return at least the money that got payed...

where can I read about this decision? this is a very big thread, so if anyone can point out what words to search for this would be great...

i payed 1700€ back than, which was a bit more than the kickstarter. Too much too just "let it go"...

Call them and try to negotiate a price that's fair to both of you.

I suspect that it is not a new product that was introduced, but newly manufactured devices, as opposed to second hand ones.
You could be right.

I am not familiar with how factual and exacting filing requirements are for non-public companies in this jurisdiction. However, the use of the phrase "... substantial advance orders for a new product" would typically be distinguished from the notion of standard orders for the sale of "new units", "newly manufactured units", "additional stock" or "additional inventory".

It is also noteworthy that the filing indicates "When the product is delivered, the profit should cover the remaining shortfall". With the net shortfall being listed as $208,477 (US), and assuming a 50% profit margin on sales, that places the gross advance orders in the realm of $417,000 (US). Assuming for a moment that these orders were simply for existing A16 products, and using the unit pricing listed on the website, that suggests orders for a quantity of around 88 - A16 Realisers -- and even more if a standard quantity discount was applied.

Again, not sure how stringent the regulations are for these filings. All of the above are assumptions and conjecture.

Edit: Typos

james@smyth-research.com (on the website) is a valid email to reach the James, right?

I reached out to purchase a A16 unit and was told "Lead time is 5 days.", "Once we receive payment we can start to build your unit right away.".
I paid a $5000+ invoice on 4/7, and got no response/confirmation to my last question: "It does have the spdif output so I can use my own amp, right? In that case lets keep it unbalanced."

Last Thursday (4/17) I sent another email to the thread to ask for update and obviously got no response.

Hopefully it's just the Easter leave?

You can use your own amp.
