To be fair, to my ears there's no any clear or evident improvements in sound. Cable switching process takes several seconds so proper a/b testing can't be done. However I tested cables at same time, ie left driver with stock cable and right driver with Ourart cable, and I don't think Ourart cable brings any clear improvements over stock cable. With similiar test I noticed with my Grados that Shure cable provided less bass than Grado cable. However my srh1440 doesn't seem to show any clear differences with same testing method. I suppose Shure cable is pretty adequate. Afterall srh1440 are pretty easy to drive headphones so logically it doesn't need that much thicker cable to get all the power it needs to perform optimally. I feed my Shures with Taga Harmony thda-500t which outputs 2x 500mw/100ohm, so it gives more than enough power to drive srh1440, and stock cable appears to be able to provide. This is however only my personal observation on my own gear, and results can differ with different gear (and different ears).

Its an interesting take for sure, though its worth noting that you might also have an amp/dac that emphasis's greater clarity and compliments the shures in that regard. Not that its really been proved either but Litz cables also seem to get the most rave reviews with regard to cable sound quality, so that might play a part as well even if the srh1440 is sensitive already. Its worth noting however that the sensitivity value is relative to the frequency being played, and higher and lower frequencies are notably less sensitive then say the mids, which is why the mids are also so forward with this particular model. In theory if the drivers are optimized to the cable then this shouldnt be an issue, though that all is something only the designers would know and its not like I have access to their notes. With regard to the information I said, there does seem to be real merit to an after market cable of substantial quality, however like any audiophile pursuit its alot of dough for just guesswork, and its not like I have the luxury of going to a local store and trying things out unfortunately.

I made little diy mmcx "extension pieces" for my srh1440. Mmcx sockets on Shures are deep in the shell so normal mmcx connector won't fit in there, so I made a little extension pieces which allow me to use normal mmcx cables.

Solder work and with heat shrink. Heat shrink makes snug fit to headphone shell, so adapter shouldn't wiggle around and (hopefully) won't loosen up mmcx connectors inside Shure.

Pieces fitted inside my Srh1440 and my Ourart mmcx cable connected. Sounds really good! :L3000:
This is brilliant! I was about to drill out my SRH1840s. Where did you get your MMCX sockets and plugs?

Thanks! These parts were something I had readily in hand. I probably bought them from ebay. But if you want to make better and more solid adapter with a same idea I would suggest to use these:

That wouldn't put any additional stress to mmcx connectors inside your Shures as it would be exact fit. Mmcx connector isn't the most reliable type of connector, but I think the reason Srh1440/1840 mmcx connectors are more reliable, is because they are inside shell and plugs are well supported side ways, so they wont's wiggle around and loosen up mmcx connector. And how much easier it would be to integrate mmcx socket inside that connector piece. It would be easy to make adapter for 0.78mm 2pin connector cables aswell with same parts. I myself dislike mmcx connectors as I've had reliability issues with them. I'd prefer 0.78mm 2pin connectors in iems/earbuds, and good old normal 3.5mm plug socket in full size headphones.

If you had k702 and mdr ma900 headphones, and saw shure 1840 for 160.00 price, would you get the 1840 for your collection? cause i think k702 is more than enough for anything i will ever need (competitive gaming, music listen, movies) lol, but then again.. this addicting hobby of collecting..

Consider these cheap 1840 then as a backup to the K702
really considering, thinking if I am late, I will not see 1840s for 200$ again, lol. For the first starting price it was insane, wouldn't be able to justify that price... Just now need to find what to do with Sony ma900, headphones units piling up in the room, I really don't want to get rid of k702, even if i find something better, they are legends, classics, and they fit perfect, don't want get rid of the few closed backs, as they isolate so well, plus i want more closed backs, lol, could even be shure 840 next

I purchased an 1840 which sounds like what you are describing. It came in a generic case. As far as I can tell they are genuine and sound fine. PM me the name of the seller and I will check my history to see if it is the same one.

Hey 1840 owners, has anyone rolled pads? If so, what have you tried, and how did it affect the sound? I’m especially interested to know if there is a pad which can add some bass weight without screwing up the mids and treble.

Thanks for sharing. I noted the brief discussion specifically of the 1540 pads on the 1840.

What about any experience with ZMF pads (eg hybrid or perforated leather)? Are there any models that even fit the 1840?
