A very not-glamour shot of my loft's headphone setup. It's suffering a bit, competing for time with my two wonderful Tannoy speaker setups (and I have more, but these are the 2 high end setups). That said, I still absolutely love this DIY T2 (and its pairing with 009) to bits. Musings:
- The other headphone amps in back are realistically not going to get any listening time, as long as the T2 is operating. They are: Singlepower SDS (prototype version), Headroom Max Balanced, KGSShv (original version w/ 500V onboard heatsinks). They're here for now because I have nowhere else to put them lol.
- I'm getting tired of using the Sony WM1Z as my digital transport. Its screen is tiny, and navigation is tedious. Also tired of having an Audiophilleo sticking out the back of my Phison DAC, because its coax input sounds much better than USB.
- This vinyl rig gets the 3rd string leftovers after the 2 Tannoy setups. I'm not generally a huge fan of the Herron phono stage (much prefer VAC, ARC or Hagerman), but here its lean / detailed sound pairs well with the warm / lush T2. The Ortofon Cadenza Bronze cartridge is good but I'm totally bored with it. My 009 / T2 demands better. I can't use my usual go-to Koetsu, because when paired with T2, the result will be too-relaxed treble. I need some energy up top and a nice vivid midrange. I'm thinking either the Ortofon A90, a nice Shelter, or maybe a Benz wood (warm-ish but with good treble energy).
- The Phison PD2 DAC is wonderful, I think it's much better than Yggdrasil, but sadly with coax input it's a little on the warm side which perhaps doesn't fully synergize with the T2. I need to get the sources right in this rig. They're not quite there yet.
- The ES1a headphones are wonderful, good for an occasional change of pace from 009, but again it's a bit on the warm side to fully synergize with this T2.
- My other headphone setup (at Lisa's) is going to simplify to a iBasso DX220 MAX with Sony SA5000 (Black Dragon recable) headphones. It's just stupid good for the simplicity.
